It's Thursday in the MLB and by the way, when do you think the Mets will score their next run? Let's not worry about that as we have some fantastic betting picks for you, the betting public.

Joe C. Record 55-34 +17.87 Units

Washington Nationals vs. Atlanta Braves
When Was the Last Time That Atlanta was +174 at Home?
We might have to go back 30 years when they were "America's Team". This was before they had Greg Maddux, John Smoltz, and Tom Glavine. Reason being is that Max Scherzer is taking the mound for the Nats and Scherzer has been the best pitcher in the majors; hands down.

My mouth is watering at even MLB odds like this as Scherzer is 9-5 with a 1.79 ERA. The only thing that concerns me with taking the chalk is that Scherzer hasn't had a ton of run support as his record indicates. That said, he's held opposing batters to just a .180 BA. In his last 3 starts, Sherzer has pitched 26 innnings while allowing 2 runs and 8 hits and striking out 33 batters. These are big-time numbers for a big-time player. Max Scherzer is a "boss"; simply stated.

Washington has won 8 out of their last 10 games, but lost to the Braves 4-1 yesterday. Rookie, Matt Wisler, walked 5 batters ,but only allowed 1 hit in 5 innings and picked up the win.

A.J. Pierzynski and Juan Uribe had back to back home runs in the 4th inning as Doug Fister came up the loser in this game. Today will be a different story as Denard Span continues to get on base with a .310 average and of course  the Nationals have this guy name Bryce Harper on the team and he's just happening to have an all-world season and is the leading candidate for MVP. Harper can change the complexion of a game with one swing of the bat as he has a tremendous amount of power. We're going to lay the juice and take the Nationals as Max Scherzer has been as perfect as a pitcher can be.

San Diego Padres vs. St. Louis Cardinals
An Opportunity For Ross To Pick Up the "W"
Not only that, the Padres, who have lost 3 straight games, are on the road and against one of the best teams in the Major Leagues in the St. Louis Cardinals. St. Louis, who has lost their last 2 games, is sending Tim Cooney to the mound and Cooney only has one Major League start under his belt. In this start, he got knocked around, allowing 3 runs and 7 hits in 2 1/3 innings.

You'll rarely find the Cards at such a low price at home against San Diego, but the Pads definitely have the edge in starting pitching. Tyson Ross is a pitcher who has been snakebitten due to lack of run support. He's 20 games under .500 for his career and possesses a 3.68 ERA. Now, he has a couple of bats in the lineup in Justin Upton and Matt Kemp and Ross has an opportunity to break their losing streak and extend the Cardinals losing streak.

Showing Signs of Life
Even though Upton leads the Padres in most offensive statistical categories, his batting average has taken a slight drop to .266 and the Padres are looking for offense from anywhere that they can get it. One good sign is that Matt Kemp is finally starting to get his power back. For most of the season, Kemp has been sitting on just one home run.

In the past 7 days, Kemp is hitting a respectable .292 with 2 doubles, 2 HR and 5 RBI. Now, Kemp is at 6 home runs. It's a great sign for him and the Padres, but at 6 home runs for the season, he's certainly not all the way back just yet.

The Padres will look for Yonder Alonso, who is hitting .372 on the road in nearly 100 at bats, to get the offense started as Cooney is very hittable. As disappointing as they are, I like San Diego in this spot as the betting underdog.

MLB Pick: San Diego +115 at 5Dimes
