The weather is playing games, canceling the Yankees vs. Astros, but there are still ton of games to choose from. Time to pick some winners as as we adjust to early season action with our MLB Picks of the Day.

Chicago Cubs vs. Anaheim Angels
Is Arrieta Legitimate?
The reigning Cy Young Award winner in the NL in Jake Arrieta (22-6, 1.77 ERA in 2015) gets at crack at the Los Angeles Angels on the road. Arrieta also gets to square off against the best young hitter in the game, aside from Bryce Harper, in Mike Trout. Trout is a 5 tool player and this kid is the face of baseball for the next 15-20 years. While Chicago has a big time offense with Kris Bryant and Anthony Rizzo, the Halos will be no pushovers despite being betting underdogs on the MLB Odds board.

Favorites To Win the World Series
I know that the Cubs are off the charts in the pitching department and have an offense that can change the complexion of a game with one swing of the bat , but this team was picked to as the favorites to win the World Series and haven't won one since 1908. This appears to be a bit extreme.

That said, we're worrying about the game in hand and Garrett Richards will take the mound for the Halos and he's no slouch himself. Last season, Richards was 15-12 with a 3.65 ERA. I feel that we're going to see a very low scoring affair here. The total is 7 runs and that's relatively low.

Los Angeles, aside from Trout and Albert Pujols (40 HR, 95 RBI, .244 BA), this isn't a very imposing L.A. offense. Pujols can still swing for the fences, but he's certainly on the decline overall as he used to be a .330 hitter for the Cardinals. What he does is offer protection for Mike Trout.

One player to keep your eye on if your a Los Angeles bettor is Kole Calhoun. Calhoun hit 26 dingers last season and has the knack for getting the big hit in a tight game.

Kris Bryant and Anthony Rizzo
Every baseball fan could see this coming as Bryant looks to improve upon a rookie season that saw him hit 26 HR, 99 RBI, and a .275 BA. Look for Bryant to really mature here as there were high expectations placed on this young man last season and the same goes for this season. He reminds me of a confident player that looks more experienced than he actually is. Bryant will have an advantage over Trout as the Angels are facing the best.

After Bryant, we get to Anthony Rizzo, who really made an impact last season with 31 HR, 101 RBI, and a .278 BA. He has a high OBP% as opposing pitchers don't mind giving him the free pass in this game. This could make the difference as Arrieta is expected to be stingy.

Colorado Rockies at Arizona Diamondbacks
The Perfect Matchup For Arizona
We have the abosolute perfect matchup for the Arizona Diamondbacks as Zack Greinke pitches his first game in a Diamondbacks uniform and faces a bottom-feeder in the form of the Colorado Rockies. The Rockies have trouble enough winning a game at home, where it's wind-aided. Now, they must face the best pitcher in the National League for much of last season.

Greinke started off quick last season and was the better pitcher in comparison to the best pitcher in baseball in Clayton Kershaw.

Last season, Greinke was 2nd in the NL to Jake Arrieta for the NL Cy Young Award with a 19-3 record with a 1.66 ERA. Now, Greinke made the move to Arizona, where the pitching staff is very formidable and they have one of the best hitters in baseball in Paul Goldschmidt. Unless there's early season rust, the D'Backs should destroy the Rockies, who are perennial losers.

Paul Goldschmidt led the Arizona Diamondbacks in every offensive category last season except for hits and that's because he was given a ton of free passes (.435 OBP%) as opposing pitchers feared him. Last season, Goldy hit 33 HR, 110 RBI, and a .321 BA. That's as good as it gets as MLB is cracking down on juicers.

To support Goldschmidt, the Diamondbacks have A.J. Pollock (20 HR, 76 RBI, .315 BA, 39 SB) and David Peralta (17 HR, 78 RBI, .312 BA). Add in Ender Inciarte and this squad is dominant.

I think that this team will surprise bettors and sneak up on people and could be a great future bet to win it all or at least their division. Nonetheless, lay the heavy juice as your MLB Pick as it's early in the season and we don't want to deal with runlines. Arizona should crush Colorado.
