Tuesday night presents some competitive MLB games, but there are a couple in which there is a clear edge where the totals are concerned. Let's expose these with our MLB Picks of the Day.

Although the Boston vs. Kansas City game got rained out last night, I managed to nail an MLB pick for 3 units that I really liked in the Detroit Tigers over the Minnesota Twins. Detroit scored 8 first run innings, but poor pitching almost allowed the Twins an amazing comeback. Detroit managed to hold on for the 10-8 victory. Bottom line; a win is a win and that was a big play. Hopefully, we'll have some more luck today as we analyze the games.

Nationals vs. Mets - Scherzer vs. Syndergaard
The fan and bettor gets a top rated pitching matchup between Max Scherzer (4-2, 4.15 ERA), who is coming off of a 20 strikeout gem to tie the Major League record and flame thrower and potential future ace in Noah Syndergaard (3-2, 2.53).

Although this hasn't been a great start to the season for Scherzer, he should come into this game with a ton of confidence as he beat his old team, the Detroit Tigers, 3-2.

Scherzer had 0 walks aside from the 20 K's and that's control that you have to love. Sometimes when a player accomplishes a major feat, they tend to fall on their face in the next outing, but I don't see that happening here. Remember, Scherzer was a pitcher that left a big contract on the table with Detroit and put himself at risk financially, forcing himself to have a great season or he would lose a lot of money and hecame up with a monster season in his last season in a Tigers uniform and signed with the Nats for more money. Bottom line is, he delivers.

Mets Need A Win
The New York Mets haven't been the best team this season, but they're considered elite and they can envision a future matchup with a team in the post-season that they swept last season in the Chicago Cubs.

In order for New York to even have a mindset like that, they can't get swept by a sub-par Colorado Rockies team. Coors Field was a place to hit home runs; something that the Mets do really well and the Mets got embarrassed by an inferior team. The weather was very cold, but the post-season weather in October can be cold and that's not an excuse.

Now, New York gets a chance to redeem themselves at home as they get a chance to sleep in their own beds, but the task at hand in facing a confident Max Scherzer and the Washington Nationals (23-15) seems uneviable. The Nats are currently on a 2 game losing streak, but lead the National League East division by 1 1/2 games. In essence, there's a two game swing involved.

While both of these teams have very capable hitters in Bryce Harper, Yoenis Cespedes, and Michael Conforto, neither of these teams are hitting well lately. Washington was outscored 12-2 in their last two games against the Miami Marlins. The betting total is low for obvious reasons and the pitching is exceptional and the hitting is non-existent at the moment.

Twins vs. Tigers
One would have to think so with a pitching matchup of Phil Hughes (1-6, 6.44 ERA) vs. Mike Pelfrey (0-4, 5.80 ERA). Both of fhese pitchers came from the New York Yankees and New York Mets farm systems and huge things were expected from them and they've both underperformed at the Major League level.

While both pitchers are off to an exceptionally poor start to the season, they're not as bad as their record indicates. That said, there's still a lot of firepower in these offenses; especially the Tigers. With J.D. Martinez near the top of the Tigers lineup, they become deadlier. Nick Castellanos leads the American League in batting average and he's hitting 5th in this Tigers lineup. That shows you how deep that this lineup is.

Expect a high scoring affair as Ian Kinsler and J.D. Martinez are both coming off of back to back home run games. In his last two games, Kinsler has set the tone for at the leadoff position, hitting 5 for 9 with 4 runs, 2 HR and 3 RBI and following Kinsler is Martinez, who is 5 for 8 with 3 runs, 2 HR and 3 RBI. Let's not forget Nick Casetllanos, who is leading the league at .348 and also went deep last night. The over the total on MLB odds looks appealing in this matchup.
