Today MLB odds makers have the Blue Jays as a small home favorite which makes a little bit of sense. Are the Blue Jays being a bit overvalued though in this contest against Yankees?

MLB odds makers have made the New York Yankees a slight underdog like at +107 at Pinnacle Sports. For one of my MLB picks I will back New York in this spot is that is good value on a very good hitting team with a solid starting pitcher on the mound. They have a better than decent chance to win this game.

New York Yankees
New York ranks first in the major leagues in runs scored per game and they start Michael Pineda who pitched well against Toronto last season allowing just six runs in three games. In those three contests Pineda pitched 19 innings and was steady against the best hitting team in the league consecutively allowing four, zero, and two runs. He did not start out the season this year very well allowing six earned runs off of eight hits in five innings against the Houston Astros, but I expect for him to bounce back and pitch well against a team that he has had some success against.

Offensively New York has shown that they're going to score some runs this year as they rank second in the major leagues in total bases, seventh in hits at 10 per game, but what I like is that they rank sixth in major league baseball in strikeouts per game. When I think of New York I think of a professional hitting team and up and down the lineup and there is not a lot of weaknesses, they should be of the put up enough today to support Pineda.

Toronto Blue Jays
Toronto ranks 28th in the major leagues averaging over 10 strikeouts per game offensively and they start J.A. Happ on the mound who comes in with a 4.13 career ERA. Happ also has a decent 1.37 career WHIP and he allowed just two runs in six innings against the Tampa Bay Rays. However, Tampa Bay did get seven hits off of him and had a few opportunities to score in which they did not capitalize. If Happ is as consistent in the strike zone against the Yankees he could get hit really hard today.

Toronto has not come out well this season at the plate averaging just 4.14 runs per game which ranks 18th in major league baseball they also rank 20th in total bases and 24th producing just 7.43 hits per game. Of course there is not a lot to panic about with this really good lineup and their main guys like Donaldson, Encarnacion, and Bautista are all swinging the bat decently well. They will probably get it going soon as the season continues but right now they're slugging just .373 as a team which ranks 23rd in the league compared to New York who is slugging .503 so far which ranks them third.
