Swinger peruses the MLB odds to find out which games are games are worthy of his MLB picks.  Let's see if he can fatten our bankroll today.

Swinger's 2014 MLB Record (6-12-1, -27.30 units)
The bases have not been kind to us this season as our record heartily attests. When I play the chalk the dogs howl, when I back the dogs...well you know. Sometimes you need to get away from it and come back with a fresh perspective and that's exactly what's happening today. No, I'm not going away, I was away! Did ya miss me?

Okay so today we get serious because now we have a bead on what these teams are and what they are not. We no longer have visions of last season dancing in our heads to cloud our judgment and paralyze our analytical skills. The season is almost two months old and we have a much clearer understanding of how these teams roll. Speaking of roll, let's start one of our own right now.

Mets vs. Nationals
Nats pitcher Jordan Zimmermann takes the bump today after Washington dropped last night's game 5-2 and now look to rebound by taking two of three in this three-game set that ends today.Zimmermann got roughed up in his last outing against the Diamondbacks where he surrendered five runs and 10 hits in 5 2/3 innings.  However, before that bump in the road Zimmermann was smoking, with a 1.78 ERA over his last five starts. He also has had New York's number throughout his career, allowing only three runs or fewer in nine of his 10 career starts versus the Mets.

Zack Wheeler hasn't won in over a month and his last outing wasn't pretty when he got whacked around for five runs and walked six, lasting just 4 1/3 in a 12-7 loss to the Yankees on Tuesday night. He is 1-2 with a 5.26 ERA on the road this season.

Don't overthink this one and don't be scared by the heavy number that the offshore's are dealing in their MLB odds. The Nats are the better team and they have the better pitcher while the Mets are trotting out a hurler who hasn't won in his last five starts and has been a train wreck on the highway.

Dodgers vs. Diamondbacks
After the D-backs torched the Dodgers ace Clayton Kershaw and their bullpen for an 18-7 win on Saturday you would think that LA would be full of piss and vinegar to avenge that humiliation. Well, I think everybody is thinking that including me. LA has too much raw talent to be a middling 23-21 at this point in the season. Of course they could begin rolling as they did in their historic second half of last season but why wait?!

The Dodgers have Dan Haren chucking today and all he's done is go 5-1 with a 2.84 ERA this season. He is clearly back to being Dan The Man and will be a force to reckon with for an Arizona lineup that must be still feeling the effects of piling up all those hits and runs from yesterday.

Arizona trots out Josh Collmenter this afternoon who has been pedestrian at best this year. He has given up 19 hits and four homeruns over his last three starts and was tuned up for four runs over just five innings of work in a 6-5 loss to the Nationals on Monday night.

The Dodgers can be had at a reasonable price and Haren is a top flight pitcher bolstered by a devastating offense when turned on. Why wouldn't the Dodgers be turned on after their beating yesterday particularly against an erratic pitcher like Josh Collmenter?

Padres vs. Rockies
The Rockies are in a good spot to win the rubber game of this three-game set with San Diego. Colorado's Juan Nicasio has been stone cold money at home going 3-0 this season and allowing only one run over 12 innings of work over his last pair of games at Coors Field. Against the Padres throughout his career he has been a killer as well, registering a 3-0 mark with a 2.89 ERA and 41 K's over the span of 37 ½ innings.

The Padres send a rookie to the hill by the name of Donn (that extra n is not a typo on my part but the gift that keeps on giving courtesy of his adoring parents) Roach who has made all 12 of his appearances out of the bullpen but gets a spot start today due to the sore arm of Andrew Cashner.

The Rockies are one of the best teams in the majors so far this season while the Padres always leave me cold, no matter what season or what time in the season. They are a good fade team and particularly so today.
