Each and every Sunday Swinger looks to bust your bookmaker with his MLB picks so get ready to end your week on a winning note as he reveals his selections for today, July 13th .

Swinger's 2014 MLB Record (16-14-1, +4.4 units)  *Picks are rated from 1 to 5 units*
Don't wake me Doctor, I want to stay unconscious. Unconscious pretty much describes this torrid run I have been having over the last several weeks and thank the good Lord for that because April and May were not kind. We hit both our selections last Sunday as the Nationals snuck by the Cubs as -165 home chalk in MLB odds for four units and then we clicked with the visiting Rays for two units as they had no trouble dispatching the Tigers at Comerica Park.

All in all, we are still not setting any records on a season that is more than halfway through but we are certainly getting a better read on who these teams are and how they match up to the opposition. It is why we were capsizing in the tumultuous waters of the early season but have now righted the ship and set a course for smooth sailing the rest of the way home. Let's add to our sports picks' bankroll today and keep this luxury liner steady as she goes.

Red Sox vs. Astros
I refuse to believe that 29-year-old Clay Buchholz is all done. He's been a mess this season to be sure but this is a guy who has always had more wins than losses except for his second season when he was staggering through a season much like this one. Last year he was virtually unhittable with a 12-1 record and a scintillating 1.74 ERA to complement his 1.02 WHIP.

The Red Sox themselves seem to have had a rebirth since the Boston brass let malcontent A.J. Pierzynski  go his own way. The kids have been brought up to The Show and their enthusiasm has been a bright spot in a season of darkness. Yes, the Sox lost last night 3-2 to the underwhelming Astros but they will get a chance at redemption and an opportunity to win the rubber match of this three-game set. Buchholz pitched a dandy in his lone start against the Astros last season while his counterpart Brad Peacock got roughed up in his only appearance against the Red Sox. I see an easy win for Boston here.

Tigers vs. Royals
The Tigers have thoroughly dominated their AL Central division rivals at Kauffman Stadium this season winning all six games played there.  Justin Verlander, who has won his last two starts despite getting blasted for five earned runs in the first inning of his last start on Tuesday, takes the bump today. However it must be noted in that game he returned in the second inning amongst a chorus of boos to throw shutout ball until he left after the sixth inning and secured the win as the Tigers offense exploded to a 14-5 victory.

Bruce Chen will get his first start since April 24th and he has not fared well this season registering a 1-2 record with a 7.45 ERA in four starts. Chen recently got back into action after being a sidelined with a lower back injury. The Tigers hit him mercilessly last season as Chen recorded a 7.56 ERA against Detroit last season.

I love the Tigers here as they feast on the carcass of Bruce Chen while Verlander breaks out of his season-long funk.
