Time to take a look at today’s slate of games and their and make some coin on our MLB picks.
Toronto Blue Jays (50-60) at Los Angeles Angels (51-58)
We’re waiting for the Halos to make that big move as they’ve been a virtual roller coaster all season long while going on many winning and losing streak.
Currently, the Angels are on a 3 game winning streak and are a distant 9.5 games behind the Cleveland Indians for the 2nd and final wild card spot. It’s definitely possible to for the Angels to make a run as we’ve seen many teams do it in the past, but they need to be more consistent.
L.A. is coming off of a 7-3 victory over a hard-hitting Blue Jays team in which Jered Weaver picked up the victory.
The only major difference between these two teams is that the Angels pitching is much more reliable and today, the Angels have a favorable matchup as C.J. Wilson (11-6, 3.48) takes the mound at home and he’ll be opposed by Mark Buehrle (7-7, 4.27).
A Nice “Number 2 Man”
Regardless of his injury-filled season, Weaver is the man, but the Angels have gotten a great season out of Wilson and will need it to continue this in order to be in playoff contention.
Weaver is coming off of a rough start in which he allowed 6 runs and 11 hits in just 4 innings against Texas and was lucky to pick up a no-decision in the Angels eventual 14-11 loss to Texas. This is the type of support that Wilson will get in games; L.A.’s offense will keep a pitcher in a game and they’re capable of playing in some high scoring affairs.
Outfielder, Kole Calhoun, is getting a chance to play and has hit home runs in consecutive games. In his last 3 games, Calhoun is 7 for 13 with 2 HR and 3 RBI. This is huge for a team who’s stars have had disappointing seasons. To have a player like Calhoun have a big game or a player like J.B. Shuck make a falling grab over the outfield fence to save a home run, is key.
I’m going to take a bit of a risk and take the Angels runline, looking for big returns.

Sunday Night Baseball
Even though there’s a football game going on, I always like to give Sunday Night Baseball action as it’s the only game going in bseball.
Atlanta Braves ( 66-45) at Philadelphia Phillies (50-60)
Cliff Lee in the House
That’s all that you need to know in this game as the far superior Atlanta Braves and untested Alex Wood (1-2, 3.51) square off against Lee and the Fightin Phils. Lee is a big money pitcher and to pitch on center stage in a nationally televised game, actually gives the Phillies the edge.
Alex Wood has only gotten one real legitimate start this season as he picked up his first win of the season over Colorado in his last outing.
Wood allowed 3 runs and 6 hits while striking out 7 batters against a very good Colorado offense. Facing the like of Rollins, Utley, Mayberry, and Young is actually a downgrade for the22 year old left-hander, but his offense will be dealing with Cliff Lee.
Big Money Player
The Phillies have lost 4 straight games and 9 out of their last 10 games, but if there’s one pitcher to break them loose from their funk it’s Lee (10-4, 3.05).
Cliff Lee has not pitched well as of late. He’s allowed 13 runs in his last 3 starts. This covers 20 1/3 innings pitched and Lee’s one win out of those 3 games was against these same Braves, thanks to run support. Run support may be an issue here, but Cliff Lee comes big in the spotlight. I expect him to pitch well against an average hitting team in Atlanta.
For the Braves, Freddie Freeman is riding a 7 game hitting streak in which he’s 12 for 31 with 8 runs , 2 HR and 8 RBI. Freeman knows how to get on base, whether it be by hit or walk. He’ll possibly be a factor in this game if Lee is not at his very best.
MLB Pick- Philadelphia -124 at Bet 365 (To get Cliff Lee at these MLB odds is a good deal)
Good luck, everyone!
