Today is highlighted by Mariano Rivera and Andy Petitte’s possible last appearance as Yankee players. Let’s make the baseball picks.

A Sad Day

Mo Rivera and Andy Pettitte have been great ambassadors for this great game and if the Yankees can keep on winning, there’s a possibility that there season can be extended with a wild card spot. With 7 games to go and being 3 games behind, this seems like a long shot, but look for a Yankees win today as Pettitte starts. Now, on to review the match-ups and baseball betting odds.

Los Angeles Dodgers (89-66) at San Diego Padres (72-82)

Swimmingly Well

The Los Angeles Dodgers have had the National League Divisional title wrapped up for some time. This has been a storybook season for L.A. They might have taken it too far after a victory swim in the pool after winning against the D’Backs and clinching the NL West, but they deserve it for the quality baseball that they’ve provided for the fans and bettors.

We should study today's featured MLB Lines Report to pick winners~

Pitching Duel?

After a 4-0 beating of the Padres administered by Clayton Kershaw, the Dodgers would like to put the exclamation point on the weekend with a victory today as starter Zack Greinke (15-3, 2.75) takes to the rubber against a very capable pitcher for the Pads in Andrew Cashner (10-8, 3.21).

Although Greinke has had a dominant season and possess offensive threats like Yasiel Puig and Hanley Ramirez, Cashner has been cashing a lot of winning betting tickets for Padres bettors. He’s on an unbelievable run. In his last 5 starts, he’s only allowed 4 runs in 37 2/3 innings; that’s as good as it gets and he’ll face the ultimate test against an offense that’s currently on “cloud nine”.

L.A. has Matt Kemp back in the lineup and with the way that Yasiel Puig has been hitting, they have to be thought of as one of the favorites to win the World Series.

Puig blasted another home run last night and on the season, possesses a .400 on base % with 18 HR and 41 RBI in limited at-bats. He’s been the missing ingredient to this team’s lack of success in the past and has to be mentioned in the same breath as Bryce Harper and Mike Trout as the future of baseball.

Look for a low scoring game here as the quality of starting pitching is very high.

Sunday Night Baseball

St. Louis Cardinals (91-64) at Milwaukee Brewers (68-86)

St. Louis Starting To Pull Away?

I can’t remember a time where either the Pittsburgh Pirates or the St. Louis Cardinals have had a lead of more than 1 game for the divisional title in the last few months as these two teams have been flip-flopping back and forth until now.

After a convincing 7-2 win over the Brewers, the Cards finally have a little bit of space with a 2 game lead over Pittsburgh and just 7 games to go in the regular season. A win tonight would be huge.

Pittsburgh will have their hands full earlier in the day when they host the wild card contending Cincinnati Reds.

Joe Kelly

We all know how explosive that the Cards offense can be with the likes of Carpenter, Beltran, Holiday, Molina, and even Adams, but starter Joe Kelly has a tall order at hand as he faces a Brewers lineup with some formidable hitters. Kelly will always give the Cardinals quality innings, but the problem is that he can’t pitch more than 6 innings at best per outing.

This game will come down to the Cardinals effectiveness against starter Wily Peralta (10-15, 4.34). Peralta has pitched much better than his record indicates. Peralta hasn’t allowed more than 3 runs in any of his last 5 starts. In his last outing, he made easy work of the lowly Chicago Cubs, allowing just 1 run in 6 innings pitched. He faces a tougher lineup in the Cardinals, who have a lot on the line.

First baseman, Matt Adams, might be the missing ingredient to put the Cards over the top. He’s been on fire this past week hitting .444 with 3 HR and 8 RBI. Anything that Adams provides is icing on the cake for the redbirds.

St. Louis has all of the talent and incentive in the world to win this game and will be victorious for our MLB picks.
