A lot of games have major importance today. Stay tuned as we offer you the MLB picks that we think will give you the best opportunity for profit.

It’s NFL Week 2, but there’s a playoff race going on in Major League Baseball with just over 2 weeks remaining in the regular season.

Sunday Night Baseball

New York Yankees (79-70) at Boston Red Sox (91-59)

Boston Owns New York

After a 2nd consecutive defeat after the Yankees had been playing so well and on their way to a wild card spot, I’m inclined to believe that the Red Sox are just a better team than New York and that they basically “own’ them.

New York was feeling really good after they dominated Baltimore, but after a trip into Fenway Park, they find themselves 3 games behind the Tampa Bay Rays for the final wild card spot with just 13 games to go in the season. This is fairly close to a “must win” situation if the Yankees want to have a realistic chance at making the playoffs.

Nova vs. Buchholz

Ivan Nova (8-4, 3.17) is a pitcher if you’re a Yankee fan or bettor, that will break your heart. He will either pitch a complete game win and dominate like he did on August 31st against the Orioles or he’ll come back and give you a stinker in which he allowed 3 runs and 5 hits in 4 innings such as his appearance against Boston on the 5th of September.

For New York to have any chance, Nova must at least give a respectable performance and leave it up to players like Curtis Granderson and Robinson Cano, who have been hot offensively as of late.

Nova faces a guy coming back from injury in Clay Buchholz. Buchholz’s record pretty much resembles the Red Sox season; he’s won 10 games in 10 decisions. After not pitching in over 3 months, Buchholz returned with a 2-0 victory over Tampa Bay, allowing just 3 hits in 5 innings.

My only question for our MLB picks, is how long can Buchholz pitch for? The Red Sox treated him with kid gloves in his return, but they need a lot more than 5 innings from their starter. The Boston bullpen will be involved.

Even though Mike Napoli and David Ortiz absolutely own the Yankees, look for Nova and the Yanks to come up big here. I’m expecting a low scoring affair.

MLB Picks- New York/Boston UNDER 8.5 at Bet 365

Seattle Mariners (66-82) at St. Louis Cardinals (86-62)

Who Wants It???

After a Pittsburgh Pirates win over the Chicago Cubs and St. Louis loss to Seattle yesterday, these team are once again tied for the National League Central Division lead with 14 games remaining in the season. St. Louis has had an endless amount of opportunities to run away with the division with their superior personnel and haven’t been able to escape the Bucs.

The Cards are coming off of a 4-1 loss to Seattle in which underrated Kendrys Morales was the star as he clobbered an 8th inning home run to add to a 2-0 lead that Seattle already had and the Cardinals bats went silent.

Any team can lose on any given day, but when you have a lineup like the Cardinals do, you expect a Matt Holiday or Carlos Beltran to come up big in the crucial spots. Nonetheless, St. Louis needs to keep pace with Pittsburgh, who play a weak Cubs team at home.

“It’s Miller Time”

After a bunch of uninspiring starts, starter Shelby Miller (13-9, 3.05) came up huge in his last start in which he held the Milwaukee Brewers scoreless for 6 2/3 innings. Look for Miller to take the momentum from that start against a relatively weak Seattle offense and use it today. I’m also looking for the Cards bats to wake up in a spot like this; it’s too important a game and they have the home field advantage.

MLB Picks- St. Louis 115 at Bet 365 -1.5 + 115 betting odds(Look for the Cards to make a statement).
