We have some really competitive pitching matchups for MLB Saturday as the All-Star Game draws near.

Stand by as we give you the two best possible picks that we can find on the board for the MLB Picks of the Day.

St. Louis Cardinals (56-35) at Chicago Cubs (41-50)

Cemented to 1st

The Cardinals have always dominated the NL Central Division and for a moment, they lost their grip on the division lead to the surprising Pittsburgh Pirates.

After a 7-3 run in their last 10 games, the Cards have regained the top spot and have momentum back on their side.

They’re coming off of a 3-2 victory over the Cubs at Wrigley Field in which they established a early 1st inning 2-0 lead with the help of Carlos Beltran and Allen Craig and the Cards never looked back.

Tonight, Lance Lynn (11-3, 3.67) takes the mound and he’ll be opposed by Matt Garza (5-1, 3.22) for the Cubbies. This is definitely no “slam dunk” for St. Louis as the Cubs are a much improved team, even 9 games below .500.

Bouncing Back

After a couple of subpar performances, Lynn has returned to his old form. In his last outing, he picked up the victory in a 3-2 victory over Miami and allowed 2 runs in 7 innings while striking out 7. A respectable performance like this is all that the Cardinals need because they have a strong offense with the likes of Carlos Beltran, Matt Holiday, Allen Craig, and Yadier Molina.

Beltran isflying under the radar witht 19 HR, 53 RBI, and a .310 BA while Craig is batting a sizzling .328 with 72 ribbies!

Matt Garza will have to be at his best, even at home, to stop a team with such offensive depth.

Get Out the Extinguisher!

Good pitching usually wins games and if that’s the case, the Cubs are in the driver’s seat. Garza has won 5 consecutive games over his last 5 starts and has allowed a mere 4 runs in his last 37 innings. Something has to give and this will be a very competitive matchup with Garza having the best run of his career.

When you have two top-flight pitchers like this, 7.5 runs seems a bit high. Take the OVER in this spot.

Pick- St. Louis/Chicago UNDER 7.5 at Bet 365

Texas Rangers (53-40) at Detroit Tigers (51-41)

Who Will Be the 1st Team To Knock Off Scherzer?

Starter, Max Scherzer (13-0, 3.06) is on the run of his life. Of course he’s gotten some major run support with the best player in the game in Miguel Cabrera, but it’s no accident that a pitcher goes 13-0 to start the season.

Scherzer has been ultra-consistent, not having allowed more than 3 runs in his last 10 starts.  He’s also lucky in that Detroit has some momentum against a high octane offense such as Texas’. The Tigers are coming off of a 7-2 beating of the Rangers on Friday in which they battered starter, Justin Grimm, for 7 runs and 10 hits in just over 3 innings pitched.

Miggy Watch

The Tigers got out to a 7-0 lead by the 2nd inning and never looked back. Surprisingly, nobody on the Tigers hit a home run although Miguel Cabrera picked up his 95th RBI of the season to go along with a .367 BA; what a beast!

Cabrera has another shot a Triple Crown, but he’ll have to catch Chris Davis, who hit his 35th home run last night. Regardless, Scherzer has a fierce offense with Cabrera and Fielder at his disposal.

Texas starter, Derek Holland is 5-1 on the road this season. This could be a tough game for “Mad Max” if Beltre and Cruz get going. Nelson Cruz is a lifetime 6 for 18 with 1 HR and 4 RBI against Scherzer while Beltre is 4 for 13.

How can you possibly bet against Max Scherzer at 13-0? That said, I’m laying the juice and taking the moneyline.

Pick- Detroit -164 for your Sports Picks.
