Afternoon MLB Odds Update

Red Sox (Webster) vs. Tigers (Scherzer)

Covered by Joe Catalano

Offense was all over the place in yesterday's win for the Red Sox, and they'll be hoping to get another win at Comerica tonight. It'll be Allen Webster up against Max Scherzer.

With his MLB picks, Joe Catalano is thinking a lot of runs will be put on the scoreboard once again today. So, he's adding the OVER 9 runs in a matchup between two of the MLB's premier batting lineups.

Pirates (Liriano) vs. Angels (Williams)

Covered by Joe Freda

Gerrit Cole and the Pirates took the win yesterday and should give themselves a good chance because of the way Francisco Liriano's been pitching. He's truly re-found his groove that we saw years ago when he first came into the majors.

Again we've got an OVER (7.5 runs) play as one of our recommendations. The OVER has hit in three of Jerome Williams' past five appearances, and Joe also notes that the Pirates' offense is starting to find its swagger once again.

Dodgers (Greinke) vs. Padres (Volquez)

Covered by Swingin' Johnson

It's hard to figure out what version of Edinson Volquez you're going to get on any given day, which Swingin' Johnson points out very candidly. For the most part, however, Volquez has struggled, and that's not just limited to road starts either.

So while the Padres are definitely one of the hottest teams around at the moment, SJ is going with the more productive pitcher in Zack Greinke. He's taking the visiting Dodgers at an underdog price of +105.

Athletics (Straily) vs. Mariners (Harang)

Covered by Joe Freda

Joe Freda is feeling the OVER plays today, as he's picking it once again for today's encounter between Seattle and Oakland. The OVER was money in last night's game, and that was with two top-notch pitchers on the mound.

Today's game features Aaron Harang and Dan Straily, both of whom were beaten up pretty badly in their recent starts. The OVER is 7-2 in Harang's past nine starts, so Joe's siding with the OVER.

Mets (Gee) vs. Phillies (Pettibone)

Covered by Ron Patrick

Cole Hamels and the Phillies fell short in the opener, losing 4-3 to give Hamels yet another loss to add on to his miserable season. Today they'll have Jonathan Pettibone on the hill.

Saturday's game is a tough one to call as well, considering Dillon Gee, in spite of his horrible overall numbers, has been very effective over the last month or so. Still, since Pettibone has been in a bad way, Ron Patrick has decided on the OVER 8.5 runs with his sports picks.

Astros (Norris) vs. Cubs (Wood)

Covered by Willie Bee

This afternoon's game had just started at time of writing. We have two solid pitchers on the mound in Travis Wood (5-6, 2.74 ERA) and Bud Noris (5-7, 3.64 ERA), with the Cubs acting as the favorites and the total at 9.5 runs.

Willie took on a lot of chalk in the opener yesterday but was rewarded in Chicago's 3-1 win. He's taking a similar path today and picking the Cubs to win as -140 favorites.

Morning MLB Odds Report

Red Sox (Webster) vs. Tigers (Scherzer)

Covered by Joe Catalano

Despite having two solid pitchers in Doug Fister and Jon Lester on the mound, it was offense that ruled the night yesterday in Boston's 10-6 win. The Red Sox cashed as +125 underdogs in the MLB odds.

Tonight Boston is an even bigger underdog at +175, as they'll have Allen Webster making his third start of the season up against Detroit's Max Scherzer. Scherzer (10-0, 3.08 ERA) has still yet to lose this season.

Pirates (Liriano) vs. Angels (Williams)

Covered by Joe Freda

The Pirates won 5-2 in game one of the series last night, with Gerrit Cole improving his record to 3-0 and Weaver losing yet another decision.

We should see another pretty good pitching duel out on the west coast tonight. Francisco Liriano (5-3, 2.44 ERA) has been terrific for Pittsburgh in 2013, but Jerome Williams (5-2, 3.14 ERA) has excelled in the starting role for the Angels. L.A. is favored at -130 for today.

Dodgers (Greinke) vs. Padres (Volquez)

Covered by Swingin' Johnson

Both Edinson Volquez and Zack Greinke lasted only five innings in their most recent starts. Volquez gave up six hits and three runs in a win over San Francisco and Greinke allowed eight hits and five runs in a loss to Pittsburgh.

Though Greinke is out-performing Volquez on the whole, he's been terrible on the road so far this season, going 0-2 with a 7.45 ERA in four starts outside of Los Angeles. Still, the Dodgers are -110 favorites for tonight.

Athletics (Straily) vs. Mariners (Harang)

Covered by Joe Freda

The Athletics bashed four homers in last night's 6-3 victory, as those who were expecting a duel between Hisashi Iwakuma and Bartolo Colon were a little off base. The win kept Oakland's narrow one-game lead in the AL West intact.

Aaron Harang returns home to pitch, where he's gone a respectable 3-3 with a 4.19 ERA on the season, as opposed to 0-4 with a 6.75 ERA on the road. However, it's Dan Straily and the Athletics (-130) that are favorites for our MLB picks, but will we go that way?.

Mets (Gee) vs. Phillies (Pettibone)

Covered by Ron Patrick

Cole Hamels was dealt yet another loss yesterday, with Jonathan Pettibone hopeful he can lead his Phillies to a victory this afternoon. Pettibone is 3-3 with a 4.40 ERA and 1.52 WHIP on the year.

Opposing him on the mound will be Dillon Gee, who's been throwing the ball really well. He's 2-1 with a 1.64 ERA in three June starts, though he's been a lot worse on the road than he has at home throughout the season. The Mets are +105 underdogs for today's game.

Astros (Norris) vs. Cubs (Wood)

Covered by Willie Bee

Last but not least we've got two teams in the bottom of their respective divisions doing battle at Wrigley Field. Matt Garza was fantastic in Chicago's 3-1 win yesterday and the Cubs will need another good start out of Travis Wood today.

The Astros counter with Bud Norris, who's been solid for the Astros throughout the year but only has a 5-7 win-loss record to show for it. Oddsmakers have posted the Cubs as -140 favorites.
