After a successful 2-0 day with easy runline victories, we have a couple of “home run” matchups as we look to build the bankroll heading towards the home stretch of the MLB regular season.

Miami Marlins (56-98) at Washington Nationals (83-71)

Trouble Catching Cincy

I’ve been riding the Washington Nationals and it’s been working like a charm as they’ve been the hottest team in baseball. Unfortunately for them, Cincinnati found a way to comeback yesterday and the deficit is still 5 games with just 8 games remaining in the season. Washington has another lopsided matchup against the lowly Marlins as Stephen Strasburg (7-9, 2.96) takes the mound against Tom Koheler (3-10, 4.51).

Even though this appears to be an easy win for the Nats, Koheler had his best outing of the season in his last start against the Mets in which he allowed just 3 hits in 8 innings pitched. Of course, the Marlins couldn’t give him any run support and the Marlins still lost 1-0. Miami is well on its way to 100 losses.

Strasburg has pitched fairly well in the month of September, allowing 4 runs and 6 hits in 12 innings. His last outing was a victory over these same Marlins. If Strasburg “is right” he can’t be stopped. One concern regarding the right-hander is that he’s injury-plagued. He’s suffering from a forearm injury, but will start in tonight’s game.

Washington is coming off of an easy 8-0 victory over Miami in which Jordan Zimmerman allowed just 2 hits and struck out 9 batters. Miami is limping down the stretch and the quartet of Span, Zimmerman, Harper, and Werth are too overwhelming to fade in a game that Washington needs.

Look for another Washington blowout for your baseball picks.

Chicago White Sox (60-93) at Detroit Tigers (90-64)

Pitcher’s Duel?

A good pitching matchup will take place at Comerica Park as White Sox ace, Chris Sale (11-13, 3.08) takes on Rick Porcello (13-8, 4.45). Although Porcello does get the run support and Sale rarely ever get’s the support, Porcello has been pitching very well as of late and well deserving of the “W’s”. Porcello has won 4 out of his last 5 decisions and in his last 2 starts, he’s only allowed 2 runs in 15 innings pitched. Look for Porcello to give Chris Sale a run for his money.

Supporting Miggy

The Tigers are coming off of a 12-5 destruction of Chicago in which Torii Hunter, Victor Martinez, and Prince Fielder were the stars of the game. The ageless Hunter was 4 for 5 with 2 runs and 3 RBI’s while Martinez went 2 for 3 with a homer while raising his batting average over the .300 mark. With Prince Fielder getting hot at the right time, the Tigers are ready for the post season. This is a deep team and while Cabrera recovers from his injuries, the depth has paid off as proven last night.

Martinez is a red hot .478 with 1 HR and 5 RBI in his last 23 at-bats. Sometimes with a big game like yesterday, you get a letdown the next day. I expect the offenses to cool off a bit tonight. Take the UNDER as your free pick.
