Our MLB professional handicapper provides us with a betting preview on Monday’s Minnesota and Oakland game. Go inside to get his insightful analysis that culminates with a MLB pick.

The Twins and A’s open a three game series on Memorial Day, and this will be the first meeting of the season between these clubs. According to MLB Odds, Oakland is a -105 money line favorite, and the posted total is 8.5.

Battle of Futility
Both of these teams currently reside at the bottom of their respective divisions. Minnesota enters this week with a 15-34 (.306) record, and Oakland comes in at 22-29 (.431). The Twins are 7-19 (.269) during away games thus far, and Oakland is 10-16 (.384) at home.

Despite their abysmal start in 2016, Minnesota is coming off a three game sweep of the Mariners in Seattle, and has now won four in a row. That matches their longest win streak of the season. You may be surprised to know, Minnesota is a respectable 7-5 following a win this year.

After getting off to an encouraging 10-7 start, Oakland has since gone a terrible 12-22. It must be noted, they’re coming off home wins on Saturday and Sunday over Detroit. Similar to Minnesota, Oakland has actually gone a profitable 11-7 following a win this season. However, they’ll be facing a Twins team that has a team batting average of .238 in 2016. The A’s are 2-13 at home this season versus American League teams with a .255 or less team batting average.

Starting Pitchers
Veteran right-hander Ervin Santana gets the start for Minnesota this afternoon. Santana has displayed good form over his last three starts, evidenced by him compiling a solid 1.30 WHIP during those outings. Santana has fared very well when facing Oakland, going 15-6 in his career team starts while posting a superb 2.07 ERA.

Right-hander Kendall Gravemen will be on the mound for Oakland on Monday, and this will be his first career start against Minnesota. Gravemen has gone an awful 1-8 in his team starts this year, and that includes 0-4 at home. He’s shown shaky form over his last three starts by posting a large 1.85 WHIP. The young 25-year-old hurler has also surrendered an alarmingly high 10 home runs during only 47.0 innings pitched.

Final Take and Pick
The Twins aren’t a good team by any stretch of the imagination, but they’re also not so bad as to continue at its brutal .306 win percentage. Contrarily, Oakland’s current record is right in line with what most experts predicted. The “Money Ball” strategy for Oakland General Manager Billy Beane is in need of an extensive software upgrade, and I’ll be fading his team when making one of my Monday MLB Picks.
