Sports handicapper Ian Cameron provides an MLB betting preview of Friday night's matchup between the Kansas City Royals and Seattle Mariners.

Kansas City Royals vs. Seattle Mariners
Kris Medlen has gone back and forth from being a starter to a reliever and now back to being a starter and it has not been an easy transition for him. He has struggled in April allowing 11 runs in 15 innings and in particular was roughed up last time out against Baltimore not getting out of the 3rd inning and getting hit hard for 7 runs on 9 hits. I’m not sure I’m ready to trust Medlen to have a strong outing here against Seattle but he is capable enough to at least minimize the damage and keep his team in the game which is the key for the Royals to win because their bullpen is certainly superior to most teams in baseball.

Seattle will send Felix Hernandez to the mound and he has been more hittable and had worse control and command so far in 2016 issuing 15 walks in 25 innings which is very atypical of him. He has allowed 3 runs or less in each start in spite of some wonky command but the Royals lineup did connect for 4 runs on 9 hits in 6.2 innings last season in their only time facing King Felix.

Betting Analysis:
This game has a decent chance to be tied or a one or two run game at most by the time we get to the 2nd half of the game in the 6th inning and I think I would make the Royals the favorite at that point with their lockdown bullpen capable of keeping KC close in the latter stages and giving them a chance to win a close game in the late innings. I like the spot for Kansas City in this game tonight because they should be hungry for a win after a rough series in LA against the Angels but I do not believe Medlen has any advantage over Hernandez.

Medlen has not gone past the 6th inning in any start this season so we should see the Royals bullpen enter this contest at around the 6th inning and I like their chances of keeping Seattle's bats silent from that point onward. Not every single Vegas and offshore sportsbook offers MLB 2nd half betting lines so it is in your best interest to shop around at different books to find them. I believe there is a greater edge with the Royals in the MLB odds boards for this game rather than for the entire game so as a result, my MLB pick will be Kansas City for the 2nd half at +105 which you can find currently at Heritage.
