SBR takes a look at both the Wednesday and Thursday matchups between the KC Royals and the NY Yankees. How can bettors make the most out of these two matchups with their MLB picks?

The Kansas City Royals cashed tickets in this week’s first two matchups with the New York Yankees, while the UNDER went 2-0. MLB betting for Wednesday night’s duel has a pair of righty starters on the hill, while Thursday afternoon’s finale has two veterans squaring off.

Wednesday:  Davis (4-7, 5.42 ERA) vs Nova (3-2, 4.09 ERA)

New York’s Ivan Nova lasted a full nine frames in Friday’s 3-2 victory for his club over the Baltimore Orioles, collecting as a 101 home dog. The Dominican Republic native tossed 11 strikeouts, while picking up the win thanks to a walkoff single from mate Vernon Wells.

Royals righty Wade Davis logged a second straight loss on the same night’s card, with Kansas City’s 6-3 defeat to the Oakland Athletics. The 27-year-old allowed three runs over seven innings, failing to cash as a 107 home dog.

Nova has not faced the Royals since a pair of starts in 2011, giving up 11 earned runs over the span’s 8 1/3 IP. Davis was lit up for seven runs in May’s meeting with New York, lasting five frames in an 11-6 defeat for Kansas City as 121 home ‘chalk.’

MLB odds makers at Bet365 opened Nova as a 141 home favorite, while early wagers on the Royals dropped the MLB odds to minus 138. The ‘total’ was first set at nine, with a minus 125 tag added to the UNDER.

I am backing the UNDER with my MLB picks here, looking for another low octane affair between these foes.

Nova has logged some tight numbers at home in his last three appearances, giving up six runs in the span’s 20 2/3 IP. Davis has held foes to three runs or less in five of his last six starts, while umpire Paul Nauert has seen the UNDER cash at a 5-1-1 clip in his last seven called games.

Free MLB Pick: UNDER 9 at Bet365

Thursday:  Ervin Santana (5-5, 2.90 ERA) vs Andy Pettitte (6-6, 4.37 ERA)

Yankees southpaw Andy Pettite faces Royals right-hander Ervin Santana in Thursday’s daytime finale, with both hurler’s clubs notching victories in their most recent starts.

Pettitte logged his first win in five starts with New York’s 5-4 triumph over Baltimore, holding on in Saturday’s matchup to cash as a 117 home favorite. The three-time All-Star gave up three earned runs through 6 2/3 innings, while closer Mariano Rivera anchored a trio of relievers for his 29th save.

Santana picked up a fourth straight no-decision on the same afternoon, with Kansas City prevailing as 114 home ‘chalk’ in a 4-3 victory over Oakland. The 30-year-old allowed all three of the Athletics’ runs over seven frames, with Royals relievers Aaron Crow and Greg Holland recording their staff’s win and save, respectively.

Pettitte and Santana started as part of May’s series between the rivals, with each logging opposite results. Pettitte allowed two runs in a seven-inning stint, pulling off a 3-2 upset for New York as a 142 road dog. Santana pitched the next day, shelled for four runs (6 1/3 IP) as a 115 home favorite in a 4-2 defeat for Kansas City.

I am going to add an OVER to my sports picks in this finale, looking for the series to finish with some spark.

Kansas City has hit .283 against left-handed pitching on the road, while the OVER is 4-1 in the club’s last five spots against a starter with greater than a 1.30 WHIP. New York’s Robinson Cano has cracked six homers in a 13-for-40 career mark facing Santana’s arm, with the OVER has cashing at 5-2-1 in Pettitte’s eight home starts.

Umpire Doug Eddings is slated behind the plate, with the OVER going 4-1 in the New Mexico native’s last five spots of calling balls and strikes. Look for the OVER to get the money again here.
