The Kansas City Royals cashed at 4-2 in last week’s six-game home stand, trying to stay alive in the American League’s Wild Card hunt.

Monday’s MLB betting has Ned Yost’s club opening a road set against the Seattle Mariners, with righties Brandon Maurer and Yordano Ventura squaring off.

Royals, Mariners end with wins

Kansas City finished the weekend with Sunday’s 4-0 triumph over the Texas Rangers, cashing as a 124 home favorite. Royals outfielder Justin Maxwell cracked a walkoff grand slam in the 10th inning, breaking a scoreless stalemate.

Seattle notched a 3-2 victory over the Los Angeles Angels on the same card, ending a 10-game road trip as a 105 underdog. Mariners first baseman Justin Smoak poked a two-run homer, while closer Danny Farquhar anchored five relievers for his 15th save.

Maurer goes five in Detroit

Maurer came away with a no-decision in Tuesday’s 6-2 defeat for Seattle as a 244 road dog against the Detroit Tigers. The 23-year-old stood in for five innings, allowing a pair of solo shot homers as part of five hits.

Seattle’s Michael Saunders cracked a double and triple, while cleanup man Raul Ibanez cleared his 28th long ball of the year. Mariners mates Abraham Almonte and Franklin Gutierrez were held to a combined 0-for-9, with reliever Yoervis Medina picking up his staff’s loss.

Ventura outdueled at home

Ventura made his MLB debut on the same night, logging a no-decision in Kansas City’s 5-3 setback to the Cleveland Indians. The Dominican Republic native gave up one run over 5 2/3 innings, allowing five hits and two walks.

Royals third baseman Mike Moustakas poked a pair of doubles in a 2-for-4 outing, while mates Eric Hosmer and Salvador Perez drove in one run each. Kansas City edged Cleveland in hits, 9-8, with Ventura logging one of his side’s two errors.

Back the ‘Under’ in Seattle

Ventura opened as a 137 road favorite on the MLB odds board, with initial action on Seattle dropping the premium to minus 128. The ‘total’ opened at a flat eight, followed by ‘Under’ wagers moving its lean to minus 125.

I am also backing the ‘Under’ as part of Monday’s sports picks, agreeing with the early ‘steam.’

Ventura had a promising debut last week, following his stint with Triple-A’s Omaha Storm Chasers. The rookie faces a Mariners’ lineup hitting just .241 against righties, while the ‘Under’ is 8-3 in Seattle’s last 11 series openers.

Maurer has given up some sizable numbers at home, but draws a Royals’ club that should stay cooled off here. The ‘Under’ is 6-1-1 in Kansas City’s last eight road matchups against righty starters, while going 4-1 in the Royal’s last five spots as road ‘chalk.’

Royals slugger Alex Gordon is in the midst of an 0-for-13 slump, while Seattle’s Kendrys Morales returns home on a 5-for-29 run in his last eight games. Look for the low octane to continue here, adding another cashed ticket for ‘Under’ backers to the wager’s 6-2-2 mark in the last 10 meetings between these clubs at Safeco Field.
