The Baltimore Orioles will have a chance to gain ground against the Boston Red Sox in the division standings, as the two teams open up a three-game series Friday.

Let’s take a closer look at the MLB betting odds for this American League East matchup at Oriole Park at Camden Yards, with the first pitch scheduled for 7:05 p.m. ET.

Check out our Friday Morning MLB Odds & Betting Lines Report.

Holding on

Boston holds a half-game lead over the Tampa Bay Rays in the division, as it has gone 12-8 in July this season, with the UNDER going 13-6 in that situation.

The Red Sox are 1-6 in their last seven trips to Baltimore, but they’ve won their last four games in the series with tonight’s starting pitcher on the hill.

Shut down

Baltimore sits in the third spot in the division, but currently occupies one of the AL’s two Wild Card spots. The club returns home after a 4-3 road trip—dropping the final three games due to scoring just six runs over that span.

The Orioles are 13-6 at home with a money line of -100 to -125 this season, with the UNDER going 10-7-2 in those 19 affairs.

Lackey

Red Sox starting pitcher John Lackey (7-7, 2.95 ERA) has alternated wins and losses over his last four outings, as he looks to bounce back from a 5-2 home defeat to the New York Yankees.

The right-hander is 3-5 with a 3.79 ERA in 10 road outings, surrendering 10 home runs in 59.1 combined innings.

In 20 career games versus the Orioles, Lackey has compiled a solid 12-4 record and 3.31 ERA, including a 5-3 mark and 3.38 ERA in 10 appearances at this ballpark.

Tillman

Orioles starting pitcher Chris Tillman (12-3, 3.84 ERA) has won back-to-back efforts, including a 4-2 road victory over the Texas Rangers last time out, as he allowed two runs and six hits over eight strong innings.

The right-hander is 5-2 with a 4.36 ERA in 11 home outings, but has served up 16 round trippers in 64 combined frames.

In seven career outings versus the Red Sox, Tillman has produced a winning 2-1 record and 2.48 ERA.

Prediction

I’m going to recommend that readers back the Orioles in the first five innings with their MLB picks, as they’ve gone 11-1 in Tillman’s last 12 home starts versus a team with a winning record.
