The Boston Red Sox came away with a 4-2 victory in Friday’s road opener over the Oakland Athletics, cashing at plus 103 MLB odds.

Saturday night’s rematch has Athletics right-hander A.J. Griffin (7-6, 3.94 ERA) slated to meet Red Sox southpaw Jon Lester (8-5, 4.60 ERA).

Red Sox, Pedroia blast past A’s

Red Sox second baseman Dustin Pedroia poked a late two-run single, ending a 2-2 tie for his club’s go-ahead surge. Boston’s Mike Napoli drilled his second triple of the year, finishing with a 2-for-4 night.

Oakland’s Jed Lowrie cracked a solo shot homer from the cleanup spot, while also striking out twice. Athletics third baseman Josh Donaldson left three men on base, held to a 0-for-4 outing.

Boston’s relief duo of Andrew Bailey and Koji Uehara closed the affair, tossing one frame each of hitless ball. The duel’s six combined runs ducked UNDER the ‘total’ of 7 ½, cashing for my followers

Griffin cashes in K.C.

Griffin went a fourth start without a loss in Sunday’s 10-4 victory for Oakland as a 128 road favorite against the Kansas City Royals. The 25-year-old held the Royals to two runs on five hits, departing after five innings.

Athletics reliever Jesse Chavez tossed the matchup’s final four frames, picking up his first save. Oakland’s Josh Reddick notched four RBIs, cracking a homer and double as part of a 2-for-5 day.

Lester lit up for loss

Lester logged his first loss in four starts with Monday’s 11-4 defeat for Boston to the Seattle Mariners, falling as a 109 road dog. The Washington native allowed five runs in five frames of action, surrendering a homer to Seattle’s Raul Ibanez as part of nine hits.

Boston’s Daniel Nava notched one RBI in a 2-for-5 night, while logging the matchup’s sole error. Red Sox mates Mike Carp and Jarrod Saltalamacchia united to leave five men on base, each hitting 1-for-4.

Back the A’s as home ‘chalk’

William Hill opened Griffin as a 130 home favorite, while first setting the ‘total’ at eight (UNDER minus 120). The weather forecast in Oakland calls for a clear 63 degrees, with 12 mph winds blowing outward.

I am backing Griffin and Oakland in this spot, looking for Bob Melvin’s club to end the Red Sox’ winning streak.

Griffin was solid in his two home starts against Boston’s lineup last season, allowing a combined three earned runs over the span’s 13 IP. Oakland is 10-1 in Griffin’s last 11 outings at Coliseum against clubs with winning records, while the Athletics have cashed at 4-1 in their last five games that have followed a loss.

Lester has tossed a loose 1.53 WHIP and .353 over his 12 road starts, surrendering a whopping 22 earned runs among the last four outings (20 1/3 IP). The 29-year-old faces an Athletics lineup that should see its octane pick up, hitting .267 against lefties at home.

Oakland’s Coco Crisp and Chris Young have hit one homer each over a combined 11 at-bat’s facing Lester, while Jed Lowrie and Josh Donaldson have united to hit 3-for-6. The Athletics have collected at a 12-5 clip in their last 17 matchups facing a southpaw starter, with another winning MLB picks ticket looming here.
