The Texas Rangers have won their last seven games against the Los Angeles Angels, as the two teams prepare to open up a series Friday.

Let’s take a closer look at the MLB betting odds for this American League West matchup at Angel Stadium, with the first pitch scheduled for 10:05 p.m. ET.

Sitting on top

Texas holds a half-game lead over the Oakland Athletics in the division standings, as it looks to get things going in the month of September—splitting its last 10 games on the diamond.

The Rangers are a dominating 45-18 versus AL West opponents this season, with the OVER going 31-28-4 in that situation.

Solid baseball

Los Angeles has virtually no shot of advancing into the MLB playoffs, but the club has managed to win seven of its last 10 games, including a 6-2 victory over the Tampa Bay Rays as +170 home underdogs Thursday.

The Angels are 10-10 at home with a money line of -100 to -125, with the OVER going 10-9-1 in those 20 opportunities.

Rangers starting pitcher Matt Garza (9-3, 3.55 ERA) didn’t earn a decision in a 2-1 home victory over the Minnesota Twins last time out, as he allowed one run and three hits over seven strong innings.

The right-hander is 4-2 with a 3.12 ERA in 10 road appearances, surrendering nine home runs in 66.1 combined frames.

In six career appearances versus the Angels, Garza has tallied a 0-1 record and 5.45 ERA.

Angels starting pitcher C.J. Wilson (14-6, 3.35 ERA) has led the club to four wins in his last five outings, including a 5-3 road victory over the Milwaukee Brewers last time out, as he surrendered three runs (two earned) and three hits over six frames.

The left-hander is 5-3 with a 2.25 ERA in 12 home appearances, with opposing hitters batting .212 against him.

In six lifetime efforts versus the Rangers, Wilson has tallied a 0-2 record and 8.63 ERA—the only AL team that he has yet to taste victory when facing.

I’m going to recommend that readers back the Rangersl with their MLB picks, as they’ve gone 9-3 in their last 12 road games versus southpaw starters.

MLB Pick:  Texas Rangers -113
