After a marginal day at the plate yesterday, I am backing the under as a solid MLB pick for Wednesday's match between the Chicago Cubs and the Miami Marlins.

Line and Pitchers
MLB odds makers have set this run total line at 7 and with John Lester and Dan Haren on the mound I think this is too high.  Both these guys can be lights out and I look for them to go deep in this game and get a quality start.  Lester comes in with a 3.30 ERA and 1.31 WHIP.  In his last 21 innings he has only given up four earned runs.  He is also a good strike out pitcher with 61 K’s in 62 innings.  Haren for the Marlins has pitched well this year too, his numbers, an ERA just above 3.00 and WHIP just above 1.00.  At home he has been lights out with a 1.45 ERA and batters hitting just .211.

Bottom Half
Both the Cubs and the Marlins rank in the bottom half of the major leagues in runs scored per game.  They are also two of the worst strikeout teams in baseball with Miami ranked 21st and Chicago ranked last in the league.  Only Miami has one category where either of these teams rank above the middle part of the league with the Marlins ranked 11th in batting average hitting .257.

Two real good pitchers in Lester and Haren should keep the numbers down today.  These teams had eight hits apiece yesterday but I don’t see them doing any better today.  Take the under for your MLB picks.
