The Pirates & Marlins complete their 4-game, early week set tonight with the Bucs having taken 2 of the first 3 with wins of 5-2 on Monday and 7-2 last night.
If you were to have place MLB Picks Against each of the teams I outlined in my article titled "MLB Betting: Run Line Plays for August", you would now be 65-9 (88%), including 9-1 (90%) this week! Miami, in that role at home, is a perfect 9-0 (100%) PLAY AGAINST in August.
Marlins Going Downhill
With numerous injuries to not only position players but also their starting rotation, Miami is in the midst of a 51-76 record, better only than Philly of the 30 teams in MLB. They are currently on a 10-20 slide, losers of 4 of their last 5. There appears to be little hope for Miami in the last 5 weeks of the season.
Bucs in a Good Spot
The Pittsburgh Pirates have an MLB best record of 58-25, 23-9 recently, since their 18-24 start. Yet, they remain highly motivated as they are just 4 ½ games behind St. Louis for the division lead and hold a slim 3-game lead over the Cubs for home field should they each be a Wild Card. Note that the Cubs are a resurgent 21-5. Pittsburgh has also won 6 of 7 recent road games and has dominated Miami in the series with records of 12-3 and 7-1 more recently. Though, Cole has been stuck on 14 wins for a number of weeks, he still has a rock solid 3.00 ERA in 7 starts since the All Star Break. Pirates have tallied 14 runs in this 3-game set (7 last night), indicating their hitting is in good current form.
MLB betting odds in August have begun to soar on the super-surgers (Pittsburgh) against the towel-tossers (Miami). That is why it is important to employ the option of run line betting, where we can take advantage of underdog prices or even short favorite prices on the road with the super-surgers against the towel-tossers. Just such is the case tonight, as we look to take advantage of the 65-9 Dog Days of August record, as the Pirates record a much needed victory against Miami tonight.
