We’re going to examine the MLB game between the Cardinals and Mets on Monday. Which one of these division leaders will prevail tonight? Will it be a low or high scoring game? Take the time to read our preview article in order to receive a betting edge.

Cardinals Land at Citi Field in New York on Monday
A couple of National League division leaders will square off when the Mets host the Cardinals on Monday at 7:10 PM ET. According to the MLB betting odds at Bookmaker, the Mets are a -140 money line favorite, and the posted total is 6.5. This will be the first meeting of the season between these clubs. The Mets were 4-3 versus St. Louis in 2014, and those games went 6-0-1 under the total.

Starting Pitchers
The Cardinals will turn to veteran right-hander John Lackey to make the start on Monday. Lackey has gone 5-2 under the total in 2015 while posting a solid 3.22 ERA. He’s displayed stellar form during his past three starts, going 3-0 under the total, and compiling an excellent 1.89 ERA. Lackey has gone a perfect 8-0 under the total since 2014 during his starts in the month of May. Those eight games averaged just a combined 4.4 runs per contest.

The Mets will go with their young star Matt Harvey in the opener of this four game series. Harvey has posted an outstanding 2.31 ERA, 0.92 WHIP, and compiled just short of a 7:1 strikeout to walk ratio in his first seven starts of the season. He’s been in terrific form during his last three starts, evidenced by him posting a 1.35 ERA, and all three of those outings went under the total.

Final Analysis
The Cardinals bats have really cooled off during their last seven games, hitting just .243 as a team, and averaging 3.1 runs per outing. They’ve also seen four of the last five go under the total. St. Louis has gone 44-23 under the number when facing NL East opponents since the start of the 2013 season.

Since the beginning of last season, the Mets have gone 25-11 under the total versus NL Central opponents. Despite their impressive start to the 2015 campaign, much of the Mets success has been derived from stellar pitching. They’re averaging just 3.9 runs per game and hitting a poor .239 as a team.

This game will feature two starting pitchers in superb recent form, and both bullpens have been outstanding to start the year. I like this to be a low scoring game for one of my MLB picks on Monday.

MLB Picks: Cardinals and Mets to go under the total of 6.5 at Bookmaker.
