Seattle and Baltimore closeout series in an early afternoon affair today. Those into MLB betting have seen a rather peculiar series to this point from two of the division leaders in the AL.

Seattle Mariners vs. Baltimore Orioles
The Mariners will look to keep playing well on the road where they are 14-7 (+8.2 units), while the Orioles are out to improve upon 17-7 (+8.5 units) Camden Yards mark, after winning 5-2 last night to square the series. It is the first game of the day on Thursday and here is breakdown before you decide what side to be on for MLB picks.

Pitching Matchup - Karns vs. Wilson
Nate Karns (3-1, 3.51 ERA, 1.35 WHIP) is the Mainers fifth starter and has a sturdy frame and a long overhand delivery. After a slow start, Karns has only found a real groove in his past four quality starts with a 2.46 ERA and is turning into more than just an innings-eater at this juncture. He's definitely not afraid to challenge opposing hitters with low-to-mid 90's fastball and has what scouts refer to as plus+ curve (that's real good). What has made the big difference is vastly improve changeup.

Tyler Wilson (2-1, 2.93, 1.08) is trying to make the most of being in the rotation with his fifth start. The 26-year old lacks dominating stuff, but if he throws strikes and keeps the ball down, he can effective, having opposing hitters beating the ball in the dirt and projecting very lazy fly balls.

Offensive Overlook
The Seattle offense has been locked in on the road. Going into last night's contest, the Mariners were the top run-producing squad in the American League at 5.4 runs per game. Robinson Cano is fully healthy this season and it shows, leading the Mariners in every important offensive category. He's been backed by Nelson Cruz, who has also put up typical strong numbers by his standards and other players have joined in and made contributions. Cano and Cruz have feasted on Baltimore pitching in their careers and will attempt to one more time.

Manny Machado has virtually matched everything Cano has done this year and is expected to makes his 201st consecutive start, the longest streak in the majors. Baltimore is at 4.6 runs contest (as of 5/18) and has received a truly unexpected boost from Mark Trumbo, whose not only matched Machado's power numbers, but has been hitting at above .300 most of the season. The Orioles have long been about a runner or two on base, followed by the long ball and this club is no different.

Betting Odds, History and Bullpen Numbers
The MLB odds overnight at Intertops had Baltimore at -125 with total of 9. The Orioles are 5-3 at home versus Seattle since 2014, with total split down the middle. A large portion for both clubs success has the outstanding bullpen work, ranked in the Top 3 for ERA's. Each can be domineering in their own way, with Seattle having the larger collection of hard throwers. Nonetheless, both the M's and O's have save percentage's in the 60's, thus a blown save in not out of the norm.

Game Outcome
For my money, the series finale has many of the same characteristics as last evening with Baltimore 15-3 when the money line is -100 to -150 and 15-3 home games against right-handed starters this season. Good time to back the Birds and pick up the cash.
