The major leagues best rivalry continues when the Yankees take on the Red Sox in Fenway Park.  Will we see another offensive display as usual? And what's the best valued MLB Pick?

The MLB odds have set the total for this game at 8.5 like at Pinnacle Sports -110 on the over and under. For one my MLB picks today I am going take over the total as both of these teams have had nice success against both starting pitchers today.

New York Yankees
Masahiro Tanaka comes in with a 2.92 ERA and 0.97 whip while the Yankees are hitting just .237 as a team and averaging just 3.60 runs per game. Tanaka has some really good career numbers overall with a 3.14 ERA and 1.02 whip as well as being one of the most dominant pitchers in the Japanese league prior to his jump to the majors.

Against the Red Sox though things have been less than easy for him as he has a 5.64 ERA against them, allowing 14 earned runs in 22 innings off of 20 hits. Even with those numbers he is still 3-0 against Boston in his career. The Yankees at the plate have been struggling lately to put up runs and they rank in the bottom third of the league in most categories.

Out of all the stats the most surprising is they are slugging just .369 which ranks them 27th in the major leagues. Although recently things have not gone well they have good core of hitters and should come in with some confidence against a pitcher they have had success against in the past. As well, they are not striking out very much averaging 7.30 per game which ranks them sixth in the league.

Boston Red Sox
Henry Owens will start for Boston and has pitched one game so far this season against Houston in which he allowed three runs in three innings. In a couple starts against the Yankees last season he did not do too well allowing 10 runs off of 11 hits in just over six innings of work and going 0-2 in that stretch. At the plate the Red Sox have been one of the better hitting teams so far this season and should well accustomed to facing Tanaka.

On the season they rank fifth in the league in runs per game and total bases, as well as third hitting .278 as a team. Across the board statistically they rank in the top ten in most of the important offensive categories having an OPS of .787 which ranks sixth in the league and a .445 slugging percentage which ranks fifth. They struggled a little bit at the plate yesterday against Chacin and Atlanta but they should be dialed in this series to get more than a few off of the Yankees.
