The NLDS pitching for today is as good as it gets and we're going to focus on these two games as we attempt to deliver the betting public with a couple of winning picks. It's MLB Playoff Picks of the Day for Friday.

San Francisco Giants vs. Chicago Cubs

Time To Sustain Excellence

The Chicago Cubs were the odds on favorites to win the World Series this season and they've been by far the best team in Major League Baseball. The issue with teams such as this is they dominate the regular season and then run out of gas in a short series in the playoffs. The Cubs haven't won a World Series in over a century and this is their best chance to be champs.

Tonight, they start off their playoff run against a San Francisco team that took down a New York Mets team in the wild card game at CitiFied. Jon Lester (19-5, 2.44 ERA) who has been as dominant as a pitcher can be, get's the start at home and the Cubs should be well rested and ready for this game in which they are the heavy favorites according to 5 Dimes Sportsbook.

Hot At the Right Time

Throw out Lester's start on October 1st in which he lost to a Cincinnati team in a game that meant nothing to the Cubs. In his August and September starts, Lester pitched 69 1/3 innings and allowed 8 runs on 44 hits while going a perfect 8-0. To break it down, Lester pitched 10 quality starts in all 10 outings and didn't allow more than 2 runs in any of those games. That's as good as it get's and that's the type of pitching that I expect to see from Jon Lester tonight.

Kris Bryant and Anthony Rizzo

A huge reason why the Cubs went 103-59 in the regular season was because of the two top bats in their lineup in Kris Bryant and Anthony Rizzo. While Rizzo (32 HR, 109 RBI, 292 BA.) had a monster season and has established himself as a star in this league, the Chicago Cubs didn't become a dominant team until Kris Bryant was called up two seasons ago.

There was a lot of hype where Bryant is concerned and he's lived up to the billing. What's even more impressive is that I think that Bryant will improve as his major league career progress. The Cubs will definitely take 39 HR, 102 RBI, and a .292 BA from Bryant this season. In fact, both of these players have the same batting averages and same on-base percentage at .385 BA. Look for the Cubs to get off to a fast start in the post-season. I don't think that they'll let this opportunity slip by, bettors shouldn't either and it is best to check the lines across the board and the list of best sportsbooks first.

Los Angeles Dodgers at Washington Nationals

Can Clayton Kershaw Be the Old Kershaw?

Kershaw was on pace to be the Cy Young Award Winner in the National League until the injury bug hit. We're talking about the best pitcher in baseball and for the Los Angeles Dodgers to have any chance in this series, Kershaw must be at his best. He faces the ever so tough Max Scherzer (20-7, 2.96 ERA) and the question for the Nats will be, can they play at peak level after coasting in a division that they had in hand for the last couple months of the season?

Simply the Best

We take at Kershaw's numbers after coming back from injury and he lowered his ERA from 1.89 to 1.69. He had a 0.86 ERA in 4 starts in September. These two teams are fairly even in talent while the Nats are at home, the Dodgers have an edge with Clayton Kershaw starting and in a playoff series, an ace such as Kershaw will get as many opportunities to pitch as possible. Look for both pitchers to pitch well.

Can Daniel Murphy Do It Again?

We all remember the playoffs that Daniel Murphy had for the Mets. He set unprecedented records and became a hot commodity in the off-season because of it. 2016 has been a brilliant season from start to finish for Daniel Murphy as he's the best player in Washington's lineup.

Bryce Harper has had a very disappointing season, hitting just .243 with 24 HR and 86 RBI, but thankfully for the Nationals, Murphy has carried this team on his back. For the season, he hit .347 with 25 HR and 104 RBI. The amazing thing about is that Murphy didn't have a lapse in play all season long. This afternoon will be a huge test for Murphy as he faces the best pitcher that baseball has to offer.

When Clayton Kershaw starts in a playoff situation, you don't bet against him; plain and simple. Los Angeles Dodgers are the MLB pick in this matchup.
