With the quality of pitching at a high level and some pitchers carrying a lot of momentum, there's some good value on the board for tonight's MLB matchups. Here are your MLB Picks of the Day for Thursday in which we think you'll prosper from.

New York Yankees vs. Boston Red Sox

Turning the Table
I've been riding the Boston Red Sox because I know that the Yankees are virtually playing for next season and beyond while the Red Sox (61-51) are playing for a post season-berth. Tonight, Boston has two things working against them. Michael Pineda (6-10, 5.17) has been pitching very well as of late and Boston will also be without David Ortiz, who got injured. Pineda has always had the raw talent, but would give up some huge home runs which would spoil his particular outing. This is a different Michael Pineda as of late.

"Pinetar Pineda"
Although I'll never forget that incident in which he had pinetar on his neck, Michael Pineda has stopped cheating and is starting to strike out every batter that has come his way. For the season, Pineda has 149 strikeouts in 125 1/3 innings. His statistics aren't a good barometer of how well he pitches (aside from strikeouts). He's the type of pitcher that will allow 3 first inning runs with a home run and then stifle the opposition the rest of the way.

The Yankees need him to avoid the big early inning and with David Ortiz out of the Red Sox lineup. This definitely benefits Pineda and the Yankees as Big Papi is a "Yankee Killer". He still has some maturing to do, but expect a solid outing from Michael Pineda after a big Yankee win yesterday.

The Future Has Arrived
Aside from hearing about the latest success of guys like Aaron Judge and Clint Frazier in the minors, Gary Sanchez is with the Yankees Major League team and is fitting in quite well. He's coming off of a huge 4 for 5 effort against the Red Sox in which he hit his 1st home run of his Major League career. Sanchez is now up to .321 and making a meaningful impact on this Yankees team. He's only going to get better.

Another player to keep an eye on is Didi Gregorius. Gregorius has been outstanding in the field all season long and has been the Yankees best hitter (aside from Beltran). Gregorius hit another home run yesterday and is the new "Mr. Clutch" at the shortstop position.

With everything considered, I like New York in this game for my MLB pick and they are currently at MLB odds of +117. The value is there and the Bombers still think they have a chance to make the playoffs.

Chicago White Sox  Kansas City Royals

Duffy is the Difference
Although the defending World Champion Kansas City Royals (54-59) have been an utter disappointment this season, they face a team with an indentical record in this game in the form of the Chicago White Sox and with Danny Duffy (8-1, 2.97 ERA) pitching for K.C., this gives them a decisive edge in tonight's matchup.

Danny Duffy
Duffy has been nothing short of outstanding as he's 6-0 in his last 8 starts. This is a pitcher that will provide Kansas City with at least 6 quality innings and strike out more than a batter per inning. The achilees heel to his game is that his pitch count get's high a bit earlier than the Royals would want him to as they would like to see him pitch 8 to 9 innings from the way that he's been pitching as of late. In his last 4 starts, he's allowed 6 earned runs in 27 1/3 innings. Look for Duffy to pitch well as the White Sox offense has been very ineffective this season.

"From Out of Nowhere"
One player to keep an eye on is Jose Abreu of the White Sox. A lot has been expected from Abreu this season and he's been a major disappointment....up until now. Abreu is 12 for his last 27 at bats with 3 HR and 5 RBI. For the season, Jose Abreu has 14 HR and 61 to go along with a respectable .280 batting average. The two guys that Duffy will need to focus on are Jose Abreu and Todd Frazier. Frazier doesn't hit for average, but his 31 HR and 72 RBI can't be ignored.
