Our MLB handicapper Mark Lathrop is hot - and also angry that he backed his home team Mariners against the Yankees Sunday. An emotional pick we should take with a grain of salt, and a sharp pick in Colorado are in store for our Monday MLB Picks of the Day.

2017 MLB Record: 180-159-9, +9.05 Units (1 Pending)

Seattle Mariners at Baltimore Orioles

You know your home team the best, and our MLB handicapper has seen this before from the Seattle Mariners. A tease to make the playoffs and a late-season swoon is in store for the first mates of suck on Monday.

I’m a busy guy, so on Sunday I was very much looking forward to watching the Mariners play the hated Yankees out on the patio while I drank Bloody Marys and nursed my hangover from fight night. No such luck, as the Mariners committed 5 errors in the first inning and where down 6-1 afterwards. They continue their road trip in Baltimore on Monday with Marco Gonzales taking the mound. I do not like this pitcher out of pompous Gonzaga University (10 miles from my house) and think he gets hammered here. He is sporting a 7.00 FIP on the season and throws BP fastballs. This line of Baltimore -121 with him on the mound is a joke.

Baltimore counters with … ugh, Chris Tillman. He sucks, but not as much as Gonzales and the Mariners do right now. He is also a former Mariner, so this is a bit of a revenge spot for him. With Tillman’s splits this game is figuring to be an absolute s**t show, but with the Mariners fixing to blow their chances at the playoffs we have to take the Orioles here. Helping the case is that the Baltimore bullpen is much more fresh than the Mariners’, who screwed their starter last game by making him get 8 outs in the first inning against New York. I’m taking the Orioles on the moneyline here, and you should obviously not tail this pick because it is based on emotion. Mariners get your act together!

Detroit Tigers at Colorado Rockies

The long MLB season may be taking its toll on our MLB handicapper Mark Lathrop, but he’s been sniping 'unders' in Colorado all season long with great success. Monday is no different Colorado’s sputtering offense gives us a valuable line once again.

The Detroit Tigers lose a DH when they travel to the Rockies on Monday evening, yet the total on this game is still listed at 12.5 across the board. The reason for that is likely their starter, Jordan Zimmerman, who has given up seven earned runs in three straight starts. Now I’ll give it to you straight: Zimmerman has been terrible over the last month. His strikeout rate is down to 4.80 per 9 innings, and he is allowing a .314 BAA over the second half of the season. Not helping is that the Tigers bullpen is also ranked last in the MLB if Zimmerman should falter.

Countering for the Rockies is Antonio Senzatela, who not only owns the fanciest Italian restaurant around, but also sports a 10-4 win-loss record on the season. He is doing that with a 4.64 FIP on the year and a 16.8% HR/FB rate – quite impressive. Senzatela has a 2.92 FIP in August, though, so he has been quite hot of late. He also has a nice home split and allows just a .239 BAA and 1.20 WHIP at Coors Field. I’ll take this opportunity to back the Rockies at plus money on the run line and also the 'under' of 12.5 as two more MLB Picks of the Day.
