Hump day, slump day, as our MLB handicapper looks to get out of a recent 9-11 ATS slide by making two picks that have great value on the MLB betting card. It's time to make up some ground and he makes his Wednesday MLB Picks of the Day!

Seattle Mariners vs Atlanta Braves

The Mariners shit the bed against a rookie they should have hammered on Tuesday. Now they get a veteran pitcher that they know well and hit hard consistently.

R.A. Dickey has been in the league for 17 years now and turned his career around after pitching for the Mariners in 2008. Since then he’s put in multiple winning seasons with ERA’s averaging under 4. At the age of 42 now, Dickey is finally finding that his knuckleball won’t carry him much farther, as his FIP of 5.00 suggests. He has some lucky ERA results to thank for his sub-4 ERA on the season, and his .268 BAA against righties will not play well against this Mariners lineup. He got lit up pitching against the Mariners in his last start lasting only 3 innings and giving up 6 earned runs. Dickey has a career ERA of 6.11 in his career against the Mariners.

The Mariners counter with Erasmo Ramirez who has been nails since the All-Star break. In the 2nd half of the season, Ramirez has put up a .190 BAA and 2.84 ERA over 25.1 innings since the break. There is a red flag in that he is carrying a .176 BABIP in that time frame as well, but his line drive rate is a below average 16.5% since coming over to the Mariners and they have a superb defense behind them. I’ll back Dickey to struggle against the M’s against and for Ramirez to continue his hot streak; taking the Mariners on the moneyline at Bookmaker as one of my Wednesday MLB Picks of the Day.

Minnesota Twins vs Chicago White Sox

Two pitchers that have been fade-worthy this season collide on Wednesday in Chicago. The early money is moving the line towards a contrarian direction, and our MLB handicapper will follow suit.

We’ve all been waiting for Ervin Santana to regress this season, as his ERA of 3.33 is much better than his 4.71 FIP. But the fact is that Santana has regressed, and the results are still not that bad. In the second half of his season, Santana has put up a 4.29 ERA and 4.85 FIP. Just below average yet his K/9 rate has also increased to 21.7% in the same timeframe. What hasn’t changed is that Santana is allowing just a .215 BAA against lefties and .221 BAA against righties this year – a situation that the White Sox will struggle with.

And this is where I’ve gotten desperate, as I am suggesting we back James Shields on an under call. But the fact is while Santana has cashed Unders at a 9-14 clip, Shields has gone 7-7. He’s pitched better of late and has put up a 4.15 ERA and 1.26 WHIP over his last three starts. Shields also pitched very well against the Twins earlier in the season, and has improved his K/9 and BB/9 rates in the second half of the season. At a line of 10.5 I see some value in taking the Under here and will take that line at Heritage as one of my Wednesday MLB Picks of the Day.
