On a day of very competitive matchups in the MLB, we look for the edge that will benefit your bankroll as we provide you with our MLB Picks of the Day for Friday as we head into the weekend.

New York Mets vs. Detroit Tigers

Time To Start a New Streak?
After winning 8 straight games, the Detroit Tigers (59-49) were defeated by the Chicago White Sox in the final game of their series and the Tigers look to start a new streak as they face the New York Mets at Commerica Park, 3 games behind the AL Central leading Cleveland Indians, and with Justin Verlander (11-6, 3.54 ERA) getting the start in a successful season thus far.

Detroit will also have to deal with the Mets new acquisition in Jay Bruce. Bruce currently leads baseball in RBI's and finally got his first hit with the Mets; a 3 run home run to overtake the Yankees and split their Subway Series between the two teams.

Detroit will also face a test as a flamethrower, Noah Syndergaard (9-5, 2.48 ERA), gets the start and there's a very high upside with Syndergaard. Now, with another big bat in the New York Mets lineup, Syndergaard will receive much-needed run support and this will help the entire Mets pitching staff as they strive to make the post-season. Although not allowing more than 3 runs in his last 5 starts, Syndergaard has been unable to pick up a victory and this is due in part to a lack of run support. Syndergaard allows a decent amount of hits to the opposition, but his 150 strikeouts in 123 1/3 innings pitched can't be denied.

Miguel Cabrera's Dominance
Just when we all thought that he might be slowing down, Cabrera came up with another multiple hit night last night has raised his batting average to .308 to go along with 25 HR and 70 RBI. Cabrera is 10 for his last 24 at-bats with 4 HR and 10 RBI and is sure to be trouble for Syndergaard and the Mets bullpen tonight as he is one of the deadliest hitters that the sport of baseball has ever seen.

Look for Verlander to pitch well and the Tigers offense to click, that reflect on the MLB odds, as they're just a step ahead of the Mets right now despite the Mets playing in the World Series last season. This is a different New York Mets team. You also get great value with the Tigers as you MLB pick.

Los Angeles Angels vs. Seattle Mariners

Perfect Spot For "The King"
This might not be one of his best seasons, but Felix Hernandez (5-4, 3.46 ERA) has a great opportunity for a "W" when he faces a Los Angeles Angels team (49-59) that could be without Mike Trout as Trout has the flu and Tim Lincecum is starting for the Halos. Quite frankly, I thought his last start would be his last start in an Angels uniform for Tim Lincecum (2-5, 8.49 ERA), but manager Mike Scioscia keeps throwing the former 2 time CY Young Award winner out there and he's getting smashed around.

I've Seen Enough
Although he was lucky enough to pick up a victory in one of his last 3 starts, Lincecum has pitched 11 1/3 innings and allowed 15 runs on 21 hits. Overall, he's allowing the opposition to hit .381 off of him and with a stat like that, he shouldn't be pitching and I would be fading him and the Angels every chance that I could get when the ball is in his hands.

Albert Pujols
Pujols has been beasting as of late with 21 HR, 84 RBI, and a respectable .261 BA. The runs batted in are the key statistic here and it appears this 36-year-old future hall of famer hasn't lost his ability to play. He's entering tonight's game with 581 home runs, 1782 runs batted in, and a .310 career batting average. What's even better is that PED's haven't been associated with his name. Pujols is hitting .346 with 2 HR and 6 RBI in his last 26 at-bats and his bat is needed in this Angels lineup as they're not a deep team offensively and Trout's status is up in the air. The Angels will surely need run support with Tim Lincecum pitching, but as I stated earlier; I'm fading Lincecum whenever possible.
