Some teams are playing for 2016 and some MLB teams are playing for the future. Today, we will pick apart the schedule with a couple of winning picks as there're some definite mismatches. Here are your MLB Picks of the Day for Tuesday.

New York Yankees vs. Boston Red Sox

A Perfect Example
Here is a game between two hated rivals in which the New York Yankees have clearly stated that they're playing for the future and at the moment, the Boston Red Sox (60-50) are 2 1/2 games behind the Baltimore Orioles for the American League East Division lead. While Yankees, owner, Hal Steinbrenner, has stated that he hasn't thrown in the towel, it's quite evident that through the trades that they've made and cutting Alex Rodriguez that the Yankees are playing for the future.

To me, with this thought process in place, any book listing the Red Sox as  at -200 MLB odds or less is a bargain as Rick Porcello (14-3, 3.46 ERA) squares off against Luis Severino (1-6, 6.02 ERA). Porcello has pitched really well this season and has received run support. Where Severino is concerned, he took a step back this season as he had a promising 2015 season, but has pitched poorly this year and is considered part of the Yankees future.

In his last 10 starts, Porcello has pitched at least 6 innings in 9 outings. While he really has received run support, he's pitched well in his last 2 starts, allowing just 5 earned runs on 9 hits in 17 innings pitched. Facing Porcello will be a tall order for a Yankees offense that is lacking, scoring just 454 runs this season in comparison to the Red Sox 598 and this is with Carlos Beltran's production included.

Didi Gregorius
Although he's had a bit of a rough month in August, Gregorius is coming off of a game in which he homered and has exceeded expectations all season long. He leads the Yankees with a .288 batting average along with 13 HR and 49 RBI. It was also mentioned about how Alex Rodriguez has mentored guys like Gregorius and if that's the case, Arod has done a fine job as Gregorius has been outstanding in the field, saving the Yankees a ton of runs. He'll need to play well here along with table setters, Brett Gardner and Jacoby Ellsbury. Although both of these players lack power, they have a ton of speed and if they get on base against Porcello or the Red Sox bullpen, they can cause trouble for the Red Sox.

The Red Sox are coming home from a long West Coast trip in which they didn't fare so well. Boston won just 1 out of their 3 games against the Los Angeles Dodgers and David Ortiz has been slumping mightily. He's just 2 for 19 in the month of August. One positive for Boston is that Ortiz has owned Severino with 3 home runs in 5 career at-bats. Overall, Boston is the MLB pick here despite their recent play as they possess more talent than New York and have more incentive to win.

Baltimore Orioles vs. Oakland Athletics

Revenge Time
The Baltimore Orioles suffered a really disappointing loss to the Oakland Athletics (49-63), who have won just 2 out of their last 10 games and this is a good spot for the O's to even up the series as the Athletics are simply a horrible ball club. The Athletics have such a depleted pitching staff that relief pitcher, Zach Neal, get's his 2nd career start.

Thus far this season, Neal is 1-1 with a 5.25 ERA. Neal hasn't allowed a run in his last 9 1/3 innings, but starting a game and relieving are totally different and we don't know how long Neal can last as a starter. The Orioles send out veteran Wade Miley (7-9, 5.08 ERA). Miley got rocked in his first start as a member of the Orioles, but this is a grizzly veteran that's had some respectable showings in his 5 year career in the majors.

Manny Machado
One player that Zach Neal will have to be cautious with is Manny Machado. Machado has been on fire as of late, going 11 for his last 30 at bats, including a 3 home run performance against the Chicago White Sox in which he had 7 runs batted in. Aside from his outstanding play of late, Machado is hitting .400 against Oakland in 15 at-bats with 3 HR and 8 RBI. He along with his 26 HR, 69 RBI, and .307 BA is someone that can make a major difference in this game as Mark Trumbo has been ineffective as of late. Look for Baltimore to keep the pressure on the other teams in the AL East Division with a win tonight.
