With limited post season spots available, it’s time for teams to dig deep as time is running out in the 2013 MLB season.

Who wants it will be the question as we make our MLB Picks of the Day?

Texas Rangers (62-50) at Los Angeles Angels (51-59)

The Los Angeles Angels want it and have the potential to be a playoff team, but inconsistency has killed them this season.

You’ll never see a team with so many winning and losing streaks. When the Angels hitters are “on point”, they can be the best in the league. Can young phenom, Mike Trout, will this team to the post season while having to make up tons of ground?

Baseball’s Future

As long as the name Trout is in the starting lineup, anything can happen for the Halos. Barring injury, you’ll see the name Trout in the Angels lineup everyday until they’re mathematically eliminated.

In 2 days, Trout will turn just 22 years old and is hitting .329 with 18 HR, 67 RBI, and 23 SB on the season. Trout is coming off of a game in which he hit a home run and got on base 5 times. Opposing pitchers are afraid of the right-handed hitter and you can expect to see him on-base almost every game. On the season, Trout also has a .419 on-base %.

Tonight’s matchup against the Rangers’ Martin Perez (3-3, 3.93) could be a tough one for Trout and the Angels. In his last outing, Perez faced these very same Angels and allowed just 1 run in 7 1/3 innings in a no-decision. Perez is inconsistent, but familiarity could prove to be key here.

With the help of Mitch Moreland and Nelson Cruz, the Texas Rangers were able to take care of business against the Athletics, 4-0 and narrow the gap to 2.5 games in the American League West Division as the A’s still lead.

Texas doesn’t know what will happen to Cruz, who is caught in the PED scandal, but Cruz has delivered repeatedly and time will tell.

The betting odds are good for Angels backers as veteran Jerome Williams gets the start. Look for Los Angeles to get a much needed win as time is precious.

New York Yankees (57-53) at Chicago White Sox (40-69)

The Right Spot for the Bombers

If you saw the Yankees on Sunday get “bombed” by the San Diego Padres, 6-3, you would think that this team is packing it in and there’s no chance for New York to have any chance of a wild card spot. The Yankees have reached a spot that they desperately needed; a series against the bottom-feeding Chicago White Sox. The White Sox have lost 10 straight games.

Alex Rodriguez is Playing!

Take notice because this might be the last time that you see this until Rodriguez is 40 years old or retires. Arod faces a suspension of over 100 games and will appeal. This means that he’s allowed to play tonight and beyond.

Rodriguez has shown that he’s still got something left in the tank as he hit a couple of home runs in in AA- Trenton (Minor Leagues). I watched as some fans booed and some fans cheered. Alex says he wants to continue to do what he does best and that’s play baseball. Even with the addition of Alfonso Soriano, the Yankees can surely use Rodriguez’s bat in the lineup.

Can you imagine all of the chaos that will be going on in Yankee Stadium when Arod returns? The road is a good place to be for the 38 year old veteran as he faces a team that’s hit bottom.

Pettitte vs. Quintana

Another steroid cheat…I mean Yankees legend, Andy Pettitte (7-8, 4.28), will start in tonight’s game and Pettitte has had a poor season thus far. That said, although Pettitte hasn’t pitched since July 30th as he’s pitched well in his last 2 starts and is a big money pitcher.

Take the Yankees big here. Although this isn’t classified as a “Play of the Year”, this is a big play in my opinion. New York will crush the team from the south side in this game as #13 returns to action.
