How are the MLB betting lines looking with just hours remaining until the start of tonight's games?

Afternoon MLB Odds Update

Find out below.

Athletics (Straily) vs. Rangers (Tepesch)

Covered by Ron Patrick

The Rangers just got swept at home by the Blue Jays, so they're obviously not playing their best baseball right now. All of a sudden, their offense has gone into a coma, though one would think it's only a matter of time before they snap out of it.

Not tonight though. Ron can't help but go with momentum here, as Texas has been struggling and Oakland has been excellent. So, he feels he has no other choice but to side with the Athletics as +111 underdogs.

Nationals (Haren) vs. Phillies (Lannan)

Covered by Willie Bee

This set in Philadelphia will start with John Lannan on the hill for the Phillies and Dan Haren toeing the rubber for the Nationals. Washington has been the slightly hotter team, but both have been underachieving in all honesty this season.

It's hard to know what to expect out of Lannan since he's been out of action for a while, but Philadelphia's having a hard time stringing together wins right now and Willie believes Washington (-105) is worth a look with your MLB picks.

Cubs (Wood) vs. Cardinals (Miller)

Covered by Joe Freda

Joe Freda has been tasked with tonight's game that will feature two fantastic pitchers in Shelby Miller and Travis Wood. The Cardinals are favored at -200 to get the win in the opener, while the total is at 7.5 runs.

Miller and Wood rarely get shelled, but Joe sees some value in a play on the OVER tonight. The Cubs offense came alive a little bit in their latest series against the Mets, while the Cardinals are always capable of putting runs on the board in a hurry.

Mets (Gee) vs. Braves (Hudson)

Covered by Willie Bee

Will New York have some pep in their step after a walkoff win last night? The Mets desperately needed that win in the series finale against the Cubs, and Carlos Marmol looked like he was happy to oblige with some horrific pitching.

Tonight the Mets begin a road series in Atlanta against a division opponent in the Braves, who just won two out of three against San Francisco. Tim Hudson has looked much better over his last few starts, which helps Willie in his pick on Atlanta on the run-line at +110.

[gameodds]3/236560/43-349-192/us[/gameodds]

Mariners (Harang) vs. Angels (Vargas)

Covered by Joe Freda

Though Aaron Harang was straight up dominant in his latest start, that came at home in a pitcher-friendly park against the lowly Astros. He'll have to have even better stuff tonight against an Angels lineup that is starting to find its stride.

L.A. will hope to get some effective innings out of Jason Vargas and MLB oddsmakers seem to love their chances of getting a series-opening win. The Angels are -165 favorites right now, but with his sports picks Joe has opted for the OVER 8 runs.

[gameodds]3/236564/43-349-192/us[/gameodds]

Padres (Volquez) vs. Giants (Zito)

Covered by Joe Catalano

If you follow major league baseball, you're well aware of the fact Barry Zito is a completely different pitcher at home than he is on the road. It seems San Francisco always seems to get on the winning side when Zito's pitching at AT&T Park.

However, Joe C isn't sold on Zito, who is just 5-9 with a 4.46 ERA against the Padres throughout his career. He likes the way San Diego is playing at the moment and is therefore backing the road team as +112 dogs.

Biggest ML Favorites

Arizona Diamondbacks (-210) vs. Miami Marlins

St. Louis Cardinals (-200) vs. Chicago Cubs

Atlanta Braves (-200) vs. New York Mets

Detroit Tigers (-180) vs. Baltimore Orioles

Los Angeles Angels (-165) vs. Seattle Mariners

Morning MLB Odds Report

Athletics (Straily) vs. Rangers (Tepesch)

Covered by Ron Patrick

The Athletics avoided what would have been a terrible sweep at home by beating the Mariners 10-2 in the finale last night. Bartolo Colon pitched well to improve to 9-2 on the season.

Even with Oakland dropping two of three against Seattle, they've still managed to hold on to a three-game lead in the AL West, thanks in large part to Texas' recent struggles. Tonight they begin a seven-game road trip as slight underdogs (+105) against those same Rangers and will try to start things off on the right foot.

[gameodds]3/236561/43-349-192/us[/gameodds]

Nationals (Haren) vs. Phillies (Lannan)

Covered by Willie Bee

Injuries have been hurting the Nationals, who are currently six games back of the Braves in the NL East. As for the Phillies, they're two behind Washington for the second spot in the division, but they're just 3-7 over their past 10 games overall.

John Lannan will make his first start for Philadelphia for a month, while Washington will put their faith in Dan Haren. Haren is 4-8 with a 5.70 ERA and 1.39 WHIP this season, and his poor pitching is one reason why the Nationals are +105 MLB odds underdogs for tonight.

[gameodds]3/236557/43-349-192/us[/gameodds]

Cubs (Wood) vs. Cardinals (Miller)

Covered by Joe Freda

Normally this would be a walk in the park for the Cardinals, sending out one of their top pitchers at home against one of the worst teams in the major leagues. However, Travis Wood has been excellent for the Cubs and that could give them a chance.

Wood is 5-5 on the year, but his 2.65 ERA and 1.00 WHIP suggest he's pitching far better than his record may indicate. The left-hander has gone 2-1 with a 3.38 ERA in four road starts, but it's going to be tough against this St. Louis offense. The Cardinals are favored at almost -200 in the MLB odds.

[gameodds]3/236555/43-349-192/us[/gameodds]

Mets (Gee) vs. Braves (Hudson)

Covered by Willie Bee

The Braves (-190 to win tonight) took two of three against the Giants at home, improving their record to 9-6 over their last 15 games. They are however an impressive 22-8 at Turner Field thus far this season as they prepare to host the Mets for an unusual five-game series.

Tonight's starters will be Tim Hudson (4-6, 4.41 ERA) and Dillon Gee (5-6, 4.84 ERA). Hudson has been pretty darn good since giving up six earned runs against Toronto in late May – he's allowed just four earned runs over his last 21 and 2/3 innings.

[gameodds]3/236560/43-349-192/us[/gameodds]

Mariners (Harang) vs. Angels (Vargas)

Covered by Joe Freda

Both of these teams are playing better as of late, but the Angels seem to have the edge for tonight's opener in Los Angeles. Jason Vargas has gone 4-1 with a 3.21 ERA in seven home starts and he and his L.A. teammates are favored at -170 tonight.

The Mariners counter with Aaron Harang, who's coming off his most dominant outing of the season by far in a complete-game two-hitter at home against Houston. He is however a poor 0-3 with a 7.97 ERA in four road starts on the year.

[gameodds]3/236564/43-349-192/us[/gameodds]

Padres (Volquez) vs. Giants (Zito)

Covered by Joe Catalano

Barry Zito returns home to pitch at AT&T Park, where he's put up some fantastic numbers. No pitcher in the MLB may have more drastically different home and road splits than the southpaw, who's 4-1 with a 1.94 ERA at home and 0-4 with a 11.28 ERA outside of San Francisco.

For the Padres, Edinson Volquez gets the call, and his road numbers leave a lot to be desired as well. He's allowed 48 hits and 28 earned runs in 36 and 2/3 innings away from home, so it's no wonder the Giants are -125 favorites for our baseball picks today.
