A smaller bunch of games awaits on Monday. Our preferred MLB picks of the day are in and can be found below.

Reds (Leake) vs. Cardinals (Lyons)

Covered by Joe Freda

The Cardinals may have lost their series finale against Atlanta, but they still took three of four overall and are 10-4 over their past 14 games overall. On the season they're an impressive 39-24 at home as they get set to welcome the Reds to Busch Stadium.

Mike Leake starts for Cincinnati and Tyler Lyons is slotted in for St. Louis. Leake has been a good source of stability for the rotation this season, while Lyons has had his fair share of troubles when starting.

The MLB odds have the Cardinals barely favored and Joe is taking a crack with the home team. The Reds have struggled against lefties on the road while most everyone knows how good St. Louis can be against righties. Joe is on the Cardinals at betting odds of -108.

Yankees (Hughes) vs. Blue Jays (Dickey)

Covered by Joe Freda

With the season winding down, the Yankees really need every win they can get. They've been doing well lately, winning 11 of their past 15 to pull within 3.5 games of a wildcard spot.

Now they do battle with the Blue Jays, who have obviously massively underachieved this season. They do have R.A. Dickey on the mound tonight though and he's done well against New York, holding current Yankees to an overall batting average of .227.

It's difficult to rely on New York whenever Phil Hughes is pitching, despite the fact he's been solid in his last two starts. But, Joe needs Hughes to keep it going if his UNDER 9 play is to come through, with the UNDER having hit in five of the previous seven head-to-head meetings between these teams.

Rangers (Blackley) vs. Mariners (Saunders)

Covered by Willie Bee

Not only have the Rangers been good at home, they've also been performing well out on the road, where they're 37-28 heading into tonight's game at Safeco Field.

Then you've got the Mariners, who are 59-70 overall and 31-35 at home. Seattle just got swept at home by the Angels and now faces a Texas club that's gone 15-6 in the month of August thus far.

The pitching matchup tonight isn't much to write home about. Joe Saunders hasn't pitched seven innings of ball since early July, while this will only be Travis Blackley's second start of the year. As for his sports pick for this game, Willie thinks runs will be the name of the game and is taking the OVER 8.5.

Cubs (Arrieta) vs. Dodgers (Greinke)

Covered by Ron Patrick

Few pitchers have been as hot as Zack Greinke. He's given up 10 earned runs in 48.0 innings over the second half of the season and is also a studly 6-1 with a 2.32 ERA in 10 starts at Dodger Stadium.

For Chicago, Jake Arrieta will try to respond after a shaky outing against the Nationals, but it won't be easy whatsoever versus L.A. Ahead of tonight's game, the Dodgers have combined to hit a career .295 against Arrieta.

Ron feels as if it's a slam dunk win for L.A. tonight, but he's not willing to sacrifice that much chalk. With that in mind, he'll be recommending the run-line, which is currently trading in and around the -115 area.

Morning Odds

Reds (Leake) vs. Cardinals (Lyons)

Covered by Joe Freda

We've got another crucial NL Central battle here between St. Louis and Cincinnati. Currently the Cardinals are tied at the top alongside Pittsburgh, with the Reds 2.5 games back.

To open up the series, St. Louis has been priced out as -110 betting odds favorites at Busch Stadium, with the total at 8.5 runs.

Yankees (Hughes) vs. Blue Jays (Dickey)

Covered by Joe Freda

Thanks to a great month of August, the Yankees are only 3.5 games behind a Wild Card spot right now, making this set in Toronto that much more important.

R.A. Dickey has been eating up innings like crazy lately, but can he get the job done against New York? The Blue Jays are favored at -110 at the moment.

Rangers (Blackley) vs. Mariners (Saunders)

Covered by Willie Bee

Though they've lost two in a row, the Rangers still hold a 2.5-game lead in the division. They'll try to get the best of Joe Saunders, who's 5-5 with a 3.94 ERA at home this season.

Travis Blackley picks up another start for the injured Alexi Ogando and will lead out Texas as -135 chalk for our baseball picks. The O/U opened at 8 runs but has been hit hard up to 8.5.

Cubs (Arrieta) vs. Dodgers (Greinke)

Covered by Ron Patrick

Jake Arrieta was excellent in his first two starts for Chicago since moving over from Baltimore, but he was beat up for six runs in four innings last week against Washington.

Now he has to deal with the Dodgers in Los Angeles, with Zack Greinke at 4-1 with a 1.88 ERA since the All-Star break. The Dodgers are rightly listed at -250 to win.
