Cardinals (Wainwright) vs. Reds (Latos)

Covered by Willie Bee

The Cardinals wrapped up their series against the Pirates with a much-needed victory to pull even in the NL Central standings once again. There's no time to rest for St. Louis though as they now head to Cincinnati for another crucial series.

We've got an amazing pitching duel on the cards today too with Mat Latos up against Adam Wainwright. What it comes down to though is Willie can't find it in himself to pass up backing Wainwright at plus money. He's on the Cardinals at +102.

Tigers (Fister) vs. Red Sox (Lackey)

Covered by Ron Patrick

Owners of the best record in the American League, things are looking really good for the Red Sox at the moment. They're 82-56 on the season and have won three in a row and eight of their previous ten games.

This afternoon David Ortiz and company begin a series against the Tigers. Miguel Cabrera is set to miss out for Detroit once again, which is obviously a big advantage for Boston. Ron is going to add John Lackey and the Red Sox on the run-line as a part of his sports picks.

Rangers (Holland) vs. Athletics (Straily)

Covered by Willie Bee

Here we have another hugely important series taking place, one that's got a lot of playoff implications attached to it. Only one game separates Texas and Oakland in the AL West standings, with the Rangers currently holding that narrow lead. Dan Straily and Derek Holland take the bump today.

Even though both offenses are in a bit of a rut lately, Willie has decided against a play on the ‘Under’ (the O/U is at 7.5 runs). Instead he's on the slightly hotter team in the Athletics, who have won three games in a row.

Rays (Archer) vs. Angels (Richards)

Covered by Ron Patrick

Are the Rays in meltdown mode? They've dropped four straight games and are now only three games ahead of Baltimore in the Wild Card race. Meanwhile, the Yankees and Indians are both trailing by 3.5 games.

Tampa Bay has to start winning again, starting with tonight's matchup in Los Angeles, and they have a good shot with Chris Archer pitching. He's had three straight quality starts, which includes a dominant outing (7.0 IP, 5 H, 1 ER, 5 K) against these same Angels. Take Tampa -116 in the MLB odds, according to Ron.

Nationals (Strasburg) vs. Phillies (Hamels)

Covered by Jeff Grant

The chances of Washington doing enough to finish among the two wildcard spots are slim, but they're definitely giving it their best chance. They're 7-3 over their last 10 games and are now two games above .500 for the year.

One of the two later games of Labor Day will pit Philadelphia versus Washington, and it'll be Cole Hamels (6-13, 3.58 ERA) trying to out-pitch Stephen Strasburg (6-9, 2.96 ERA). No, those records aren't typos. You'd have to think runs are going to be hard to come by nonetheless, but Jeff feels more comfortable picking Washington as small road chalk.
