How about some MLB Picks of the Day as the opportunity is there for the taking?
New York Yankees (4-4) at Cleveland Indians (3-5)
Both of these teams are coming off of a rainout and should be ready to go.
Fear the Beard?
Kevin Youkilis is proving that he doesn’t need his famous goatee to be effective in a Yankees uniform. The Yankees have to be happy that they currently sit at .500. All of their new acquisitions have basically led the way as New York waits for their injured players to return.
If you said that Kevin Youkilis (.367), Vernon Wells (.360), Francisco Cervelli (.353), and Travis Hafner (.333) were the 4 leading hitters on the team, most wouldn’t believe it. Now, superstar Robinson Cano is starting to hit; this team seems “legit”.
Best 2nd Baseman in the Game
Cano started off the season in a mini-slump, but in his last 2 games he’s 7 for 10 with 6 runs, 3 doubles, 3 HR, 7 RBI, and a respectable .303 BA. Look for Cano to pour it on tonight against Cleveland starter, Zach McAllister (0-1, 3.00). Cano is totally in the zone and ready to lead this team.
Cleveland will be looking for a little revenge against New York, but they can’t feel confident after a 14-1 loss to the Yanks on Tuesday. Andy Pettitte showed that he’s still got it and the only positive that the Tribe could take away from that game was an Asdrubal Cabrera home run.
Tonight, Cleveland faces Phil Hughes (0-1, 6.75). Hughes has the potential to be one of the better pitchers in the American League. He’s a career 3-1 with a 2.61 ERA against Cleveland.
Odds Currently Unavailable
The MLB odds for this game should be out shortly and the Yankees should be a moderate betting favorite. I really like New York in this game. They have all of the momentum and seem to dominate Cleveland from past history.
Baseball Pick- Yankees
Texas Rangers (6-3) at Seattle Mariners (4-6)
The Mariners are a -154 betting favorite. What does that tell you? You guessed it! King Felix Hernandez (1-1, 2.57) takes the mound in this 10:10 pm ET affair.
I’ve never understood why Hernandez has stayed with the Mariners. If he was on a team like Detroit, He would be the best pitcher in baseball statistically.
Hernandez takes on right hander, Justin Grimm. The only experience that Grimm has in the majors are 2 starts and 3 relief appearances from last season. Needless to say, he didn’t fare well. Texas has some strong bats in their lineup, but if Hernandez even pitches halfway decent, Seattle will be in the driver’s seat to win this game.
Seattle is coming off of a disastrous loss to the lowly Houston Astros, 8-3. Kelly Shoppach was 3 for 3 with a homer and 2 RBI in the defeat. Who says that catchers can’t hit?
It’s very rare that Kinsler, Cruz, Beltre, and Andrus are all kept in check, but in Texas’ last game, they were shutout by Matt Moore and the Rays bullpen. They could possibly be “shutdown” again by one of baseball’s best pitchers in Felix Hernandez.
Baseball Pick- Seattle -154 at 5dimes (odds are expected, but this is a great spot for Seattle)
Good luck everyone and let’s hope for no rainouts as April showers bring May flowers.
