The New York Mets have notched a 5-3 record in the first eight games of their present road trip, driving in 5.8 RPG over the span’s last four duels. How can you take advantage of this for your MLB picks? Let's review the teams.
Mets, Sox shift to “The Cell”
New York and Chicago met last month at Citi Field, splitting a pair of matchups. ‘Chalk’ bettors collected in each battle, while ‘total’ players saw opposite affairs play out.
The Mets first notched a 1-0 victory, with outfielder Mike Baxter driving home mate Ike Davis in a 10-frame triumph. Chicago answered back with a 6-3 win, helped by 3-for-5 nights from mates Alejandro De Aza and Alex Rios.

Sale logged a fourth straight loss in Wednesday’s 7-4 defeat for Chicago against the Minnesota Twins, failing to collect as a 132 road favorite. The 24-year-old gave up four runs in five frames, surrendering a homer from Minnesota’s Brian Dozier as part of eight hits allowed.
Chicago’s Adam Dunn and Dayan Viciedo united for three RBIs, with Viciedo hitting 2-for-4. White Sox infielders Conor Gillaspie and Gordon Beckham logged one error each, while leaving four men on base.
Wheeler wins debut
Wheeler cashed as a 167 road dog in Tuesday’s 6-1 victory for New York over the Atlanta Braves, called up from Triple-A’s Las Vegas 51s for his MLB debut. The Georgia native tossed six frames of shutout ball, allowing four hits and five walks.
New York’s Anthony Recker drilled his second homer of the year, while mate Marlon Byrd poked a double as part of a 3-for-5 night. The Mets finished with 14 hits, while the duel’s seven runs ‘pushed’ the closing ‘total.’
Back the UNDER in Chicago
MLB betting odds opened Sale as 170 home ‘chalk,’ with the ‘total’ first posted at seven (OVER minus 125). The weather forecast at U.S. Cellular Field calls for an 85 degree night, with a 40 percent chance of thunderstorms.
I am adding the UNDER to Tuesday’s sports picks, looking for runs to come at a premium here.
Sale has had the UNDER cash at 4-0-1 in his five home outings, holding visiting lineups to nine runs over 38 IP. The 2012 All-Star has allowed a stingy 0.82 WHIP on his mound, while the UNDER has gone 13-3 in the Mets’ last 16 matchups against a starter with less than a 1.15 WHIP.
Wheeler held the Braves tight in last week’s debut and faces a White Sox club here that has hit just .235 against right-handed pitching at home. The UNDER is 6-2 in New York’s last six spots that followed scoring at least five runs in the team’s prior game, while going 5-2 in the team’s last seven interleague games.
Chicago has been held to 2.6 RPG in its last seven duels against National League clubs, while the UNDER is 5-0-2 in the White Sox’ most recent seven interleague home contests facing righty starters. Look for UNDER backers to get the money again here, adding to the 5-1-2 mark to Chicago’s last eight dates at “The Cell.”
