We've got a great pitching match-up tonight in Bumgarner vs. Kershaw when Giants visit Dodgers. Will we see a dominant pitching performance or will the offense come to life?

San Francisco Giants vs. Los Angeles Dodgers (MLB record: 3-4)
MLB odds makers have set the total for this game at 6. Both of these pitchers have a really strong history against each of these teams so for one of my MLB picks I will back under the total in this stellar pitching match-up, even more so after going over the Giants' rivalry analysis and breakdown.

San Francisco Giants
Madison Bumgarner allowed just one earned run in six innings against the Dodgers last week and San Francisco comes in hitting .273 as a team which ranks ninth in the major leagues. The Giants have been swinging the bat really well so far this season but today I believe they will have a difficult time against the best pitcher in baseball Clayton Kershaw.

Last season Bumgarner pitched really well in Los Angeles allowing just three earned runs total in two appearances in 15 innings and allowing just 13 hits. In the last three seasons he has a 2.69 ERA at home with ERA jumping to around 3.00 on the road, this is not really significant enough to think the Dodgers are going to score a lot off of him tonight.  On closer look, in his last three seasons against Los Angeles he has been lights out with a 2.19 ERA and the Dodgers hitting just .208 against him in 14 games. He has gotten bit a little by the long ball against Los Angeles giving up 12 home runs which is by far the most he is given up to any team in that stretch but he also has 99 strikeouts which is also the most against any team in that stretch. I fully expect him to pitch a great and go deep into this ballgame.

Los Angeles Dodgers
The Dodgers start Clayton Kershaw who comes in with a career 2.42 ERA and 1.03 whip with L.A.  hitting .280 overall which ranks seventh in the major leagues. Last time offensively they didn't do much against Bumgarner and coming back from a road trip I expect them to not do much tonight. Kershaw pitched extremely well against San Francisco in his second outing of the year allowing just two earned runs off of four hits in eight innings pitched, surprisingly the earned runs were both solo shots. Against San Francisco in his last three seasons he has been unbelievably dominant with a 1.73 ERA and San Francisco hitting just .183 against him in that stretch. As well, in that time frame he has had 14 starts and has struck out the Giants 116 times which is the most against any team in that stretch.

If that is not enough in the same timeframe Kershaw has a 1.64 ERA at home with all batters hitting just .190 against him. Expect him to have another great game tonight and for the Giants to be fortunate to score a couple runs. As far as his splits Kershaw is the most dominant when he pitches at home at night.

If you're looking for more great totals for tonight, go ahead and grab these two other picks we've got for you in Blue Jays vs. Red Sox, and White Sox vs. Rays.
