The Seattle Mariners rallied for a second straight win over the Texas Rangers with Wednesday’s 4-2 victory.

After cashing in on that game as 125 road dogs in a 10-frame duel, Thursday’s MLB betting has the Mariners right-hander Hisashi Iwakuma (7-3, 2.42 ERA) opposing Rangers lefty Martin Perez (2-1, 2.37 ERA).

Mariners, Seager surge in 10th

Mariners third baseman Kyle Seager cracked a two-run homer in Wednesday’s win, giving his squad its late go-ahead spark. Seattle’s Mike Zunino poked a clutch RBI-single in the sixth inning, tying the battle, 2-2, while Justin Smoak finished with a 3-for-4 night.

Rangers mates Ian Kinsler and David Murphy each poked a solo shot, uniting to hit 3-for-7. Texas’ Adrian Beltre drilled a double from the cleanup spot, while Elvis Andrus and Mitch Moreland were held to a combined 0-for-9.

Mariners relievers Charlie Furbush and Tom Wilhelmsen notched their staff’s win and save, respectively, allowing no hits over the final 2 2/3 frames. The contest’s combined six runs ducked below the ‘total’ of eight, moving the UNDER to 5-4-1 in the last 10 meetings between these rivals.

Perez, Rangers shut out Reds

Perez logged his second straight win in Friday’s 4-0 victory for Texas over the Cincinnati Reds. The 22-year-old allowed six hits over 6 2/3 innings, cashing as a 115 home favorite.

Texas’ Nelson Cruz and Jurickson Profar drove in one run each, while the Rangers were edged out in hits, 8-7. Rangers relievers Jason Frasor and Robbie Ross closed the affair, giving up one hit each.

Iwakuma goes eight at home

Iwakuma recorded a no-decision on the same night’s card, with Seattle notching a 5-4 win as 151 home ‘chalk’ over the Chicago Cubs. The Tokyo native gave up all four of Chicago’s runs, allowing two homers over eight innings.

Seattle’s Kendrys Morales and Raul Ibanez drove in a pair of unanswered runs to tie the battle, 4-4. Zunino then poked a walkoff single in the bottom of the 10th inning, leaving reliever Yoervis Medina with the staff’s win.

Back Texas as home ‘chalk’

Perez opened as a 138 home favorite at Bet365, with the MLB odds dropping to 134 after early wagers on Seattle. The ‘total’ was first listed at 8.5, while a minus 125 tag was added to the OVER.

For my sports picks, I am backing Perez and Texas in this spot, looking for Ron Washington’s club to avoid being swept.

Perez has tossed some tight ball in his three starts, allowing just homer over the season’s 19 frames. The southpaw met Seattle’s lineup last year as both a starter and reliever, holding the Mariners to three earned runs through 9 1/3 IP.

Iwakuma has loosened up, allowing four runs in each of his last three starts (20 IP). The last two affairs have seen a combined five homers surrendered, while the 32-year-old’s pair of road contests have resulted in a sizable 1.38 WHIP and .321 OBP.

Last season saw Iwakuma visit Rangers Ballpark twice, giving up five runs over 8 1/3 innings. Texas’ Ian Kinsler has drilled three homers in a 6-for-12 career mark facing Iwakuma’s arm.

Seattle is 2-6 in its last eight road games against left-handed starters, while Texas has notched a 16-5 mark in its last 21 spots that came after losing the first two matchups of a series. Look for the Rangers to cash here, ending another skid with a victory before hitting the road.
