The Cleveland Indians and Seattle Mariners both rank in the top 10 in home runs this season, which could lead to some runs being scored in their series opener Friday night.

Let’s take a closer look at the MLB betting odds for this American League matchup at Progressive Field, with the first pitch scheduled for 7:05 p.m. ET.

Solid baseball

Seattle is doing all the right things in posting a 5-0-1 record in its last six series, as it comes off a 3-2 victory over the New York Yankees as +170 road underdogs Thursday, while going UNDER the betting total of 9.

The Mariners are 35-32 in the month of May the last two-plus seasons, with the UNDER going 35-27-5 in that situation.

Leaving the yard

Cleveland ranks third in the majors with 53 home runs, which has played a big part in the club winning 14 of its last 18 games, including a 10-4 victory over the Philadelphia Phillies as +147 road underdogs Wednesday.

The Indians will want to continue hitting the ball out of the yard in this series, considering the Mariners are 11-1 this season when out-homering their opponent in the early going this season.

Over the last two-plus seasons, the club has compiled a disappointing 5-11 record as home favorites of -150 to -175, with the UNDER going 9-7 in those 16 contests.

Mariners starting pitcher Brandon Maurer (2-5, 5.97 ERA) has dropped his last two efforts, including a 4-3 home loss to the Oakland Athletics last time out, as he allowed three runs and six hits over five innings of work.

The rookie right-hander is 0-2 with a 5.68 ERA in two road starts, but opposing hitters are batting just .222 against him.

Maurer will want to pitch down in the strike zone in his first career appearance versus the Indians, as he’s surrendered seven home runs in 34.2 combined frames.

Indians starting pitcher Ubaldo Jimenez (3-2, 5.55 ERA) has rattled off three wins in a row, including a 7-6 road victory over the Detroit Tigers last time out, as he gave up just a single run on three hits over six innings.

The right-hander is 2-0 with a 4.35 ERA in three career appearances versus the Mariners, issuing seven walks and striking out 15 batters in 20.2 innings of work.

I’m going to recommend that readers play the total as one of their baseball picks Friday, as the OVER is 5-0 in the Mariners’ last five games as road underdogs of +125 to +150, while the Indians have gone above the number in Jimenez’ last four home starts with a number between 7 and 8.5.
