The Tigers and LA Angels continue their 4-game weekend set at Angel Stadium and I'm here to give you a betting preview for this matchup while serving up my MLB pick for tonight.

Detroit Tigers (A. Sanchez) at LA Angels (Santiago) (-105) 10:05 ET
Detroit and LAA continue their 4-game weekend set at Angel Stadium.  Last night, the Angels recorded a 12-2 victory over the Tigers in what turned out to be a pitching mismatch, favoring LAA Wilson over Detroit rookie, Buck Farmer. Tonight, we again have the better of it on the mound with Santiago over A. Sanchez.  In addition, the game features a major series dominator, as LAA now stands 42-15 vs. Detroit on this field, including 10-1 recently. With the Detroit bats having gone silent, this is a solid MLB pick.

The Detroit rotation is in shambles.  Scherzer has been traded to Washington. Verlander remains on the DL and Lobstein (Verlander’s replacement) is also injured.  With Simon on bereavement leave, Detroit was forced to go to rookie, Buck Farmer last night. Tonight, they send Anabel Sanchez to the mound.  He will need to reverse his recent form.  As in the previous 4 games, the Tigers have scored just 6 runs with a .192 BA.  In recent seasons, Sanchez has been one of the most effective pitchers in MLB.  In 40 starts of the previous 2 years, Sanchez had a 22-13 record with a 2.93 ERA.  This year, Detroit has won just 3 of 10 Sanchez starts, in which he has a 6.12 ERA and things are only getting worse.  Sanchez has allowed 6 or more runs in 3 of his previous 4 starts. In his last outing, a 10-8 loss to Houston, Sanchez allowed 7 runs in 5 2/3 IP.  Both Detroit and Sanchez are clearly in PLAY AGAINST mode.

With last night’s victory, the Angels pulled to .500 at 24-24. The main reason for their mediocrity has been a .653 batting OPS.  If last night is an indication, the Angels are ready to fulfill their offensive potential.  Starting pitching has been a bright spot for LAA.  This includes Santiago, who has a 2.47 ERA in 9 starts with a 1.23 WHIP.  In 6 of those 9 starts, Santiago has allowed 1 or less earned run.  He comes off 4 consecutive quality starts. There is also a strong history in favor of Santiago. In 5 starts against Detroit, he has posted a 2.17 ERA.

This one fits nicely, as we have a strong series dominator facing a visiting opponent whose offense and pitching are in poor current form.  With the better of it on the mound and at a value price at home on the posted MLB odds, we gladly lineup with the Angels on Fridaynight!
