The Tampa Bay Rays visit the Toronto Blue Jays in the first game of their 3-game, early week set. Game time is set for 7:05 ET at the Rogers Centre.

Tampa Bay Rays (Odorizzi) vs. Toronto Blue Jays (Dickey)
Tonight, we are favoring the resurgent Tampa Bay Rays behind a red-hot starter, Odorizzi, against an aging veteran, Dickey, who has pitched poorly from this mound this season.

Toronto Blue Jays
Toronto returns from a 7 - game road trip at Houston and KC to begin the month of August. Although they went 4-3 last week, their high-powered offense never scored more than 4 runs in any game. They totaled just 17 runs for the week. On Saturday and Sunday, Toronto lost by combined scores of 11-3 to KC (a defending champion who is playing like anything but!). Nonetheless, Toronto is on a 44-26 run in their last 70 games. Currently, they are within 1 game of Baltimore for the AL East lead and are ahead of Boston and Detroit in the Wild Card race.

Tampa Bay Rays
Tampa Bay ended the first half on a 3-24 slide. At that time, I told you there was a “BUY” sign on the team based on batting and pitching OPS numbers which were far better than their YTD record. Since that time, the Rays have gone 11-9. Not great … but far better than the 3-24 slide! The credit goes to starting pitching and in particular, Odorizzi. The starters have allowed 3 or less runs in 11 of their last 13 turns.

As expected, Toronto is in the Top 7 in MLB in their home OPS numbers. But, did you know that the Rays are also in the Top 7 in OPS road numbers?

Our big edge tonight is in the pitching matchup of Odorizzi vs. Dickey. Dickey is just 8-12 for the season with a 4.49 ERA. That gets worse from this mound, where he is 2-8 with a 5.40 ERA. In a pair of meetings vs. Tampa Bay this season, Dickey has a 5.73 ERA. Far prefer the slants of Odorizzi, whose results are now commensurate with his ability. He enters tonight with a string of 20 2/3 scoreless innings. In 9 starts against the Jays, Odorizzi has a 3.33 ERA, including 2.04 ERA this year in 3 outings.

With the above analysis, it is clear that this is your outstanding opportunity for an underdog winner on the Monday MLB card. I invite you to put the MLB odds in your favor and join me in my MLB pick on the Tampa Rays tonight.
