For my MLB picks total play today I'm going to back 'OVER' the total for Giants vs. Rockies. The total on this game is high but don't let that sway you, this is going to be a slugfest.

MLB odds
MLB odds makers have come out with a total for this game at 11 and at some places it is already gone to 11.5. Of course that total is really high, and of course this game is in Colorado so the high total makes sense. Across the board the higher juice is already on over the number but I'm okay with that because I think we're going to see a lot of production today from the plate. Right now the best MLB odds are at The Greek over 11 at -125. Although I usually don't like to pay higher juice this is one instance in which I think there is still value.

San Francisco Giants
Ryan Vogelsong takes the mound for the Giants with a 4.19 ERA, 1.43 whip, 99 strikeouts, and 9-10 record. He has got back into the starting rotation recently and in his last five starts he has only allowed 11 earned runs in 23 innings. His main issue though is on the road where he has a 4.89 ERA this season and batters hitting .275 against him. He has had some success already pitching in Colorado this season and throwing well, but I am hard-pressed to think he is going to repeat that type of performance.

San Francisco ranks 12th in runs scored per game at 4.28, eight in OPS at .729, and third in team batting average hitting .268. Except for their batting average most of their offensive statistics go up on the road. Overall they are solid hitting team and they are just arriving in Colorado after facing some of the toughest pitching in three straight games that they have probably seen all season. Look for them to enjoy the Colorado air and put up some big numbers today.

Colorado Rockies
Chris Rusin takes the mound for the Rockies with a 4.94 ERA, 1.61 whip, 68 strikeouts, and a 4-7 record. His numbers are a bit inflated and attributed to a horrible game he had two starts ago where he allowed 11 earned runs in just two innings in Colorado. Still he has been pretty consistent this year in giving up runs at home with a 5.06 ERA and batters hitting .310 against him. He might be in for a tough day against a San Francisco team who is primed to break out.

Colorado ranks fifth in runs scored per game at 4.47, third in OPS at .755, and fourth in team batting average at .267. Because they are decent offense and of where they play they are ranked in the top of the National League in most offensive categories at home. After three games against the Diamondbacks in which they did not go over the total they broke out yesterday for nine runs off of 18 hits. I anticipate they will keep that momentum going into today.

Final Analysis
This is a good spot in your MLB picks to go ahead and grab the over even with the large total. With San Francisco having just faced some of the best pitching in the league, and Colorado coming into this game with some momentum, I think we can look forward to a lot of quality at-bats. Back the over with confidence.
