The Colorado Rockies and San Francisco Giants have gone above the betting total quite frequently in their last 27 meetings. So, let's look at a play on the total.

This fact about the over is important to consider in their opener of a three-game series Friday night.

Let’s take a closer look at the MLB betting odds for this National League West matchup at Coors Field, with the first pitch scheduled for 8:40 p.m. ET.

Heading in the wrong direction

San Francisco is 15-25 (.375) in its last 40 contests, which happens to be the lowest winning percentage in baseball over that span, as it looks to snap a four-game losing streak.

The Giants are 20-12 after suffering three or more consecutive losses the last two-plus seasons, with the OVER going 16-14-2 in that situation.

Tough spot

Colorado was placed in a tough spot in dropping a 3-2 decision to the New York Mets Thursday, as it was playing a makeup game after returning home from a nine-game road trip in the Eastern Time Zone.

The Rockies are 8-4 as home favorites of -125 to -150 this season, with the UNDER going 7-5 in those 12 opportunities.

Giants starting pitcher Barry Zito (4-5, 4.40 ERA) failed to earn a decision in a 2-1 home victory over the Miami Marlins last time out, as he allowed one run and six hits over seven frames.

The left-hander is 0-4 with a 11.28 ERA in five road starts, with opposing hitters batting .432 against him.

In 23 career games (21 starts) versus the Rockies, Zito has compiled an 8-3 record and 2.84 ERA, including a 1-1 mark and 4.34 ERA in three outings this season.

Rockies starting pitcher Jhoulys Chacin (6-3, 3.92 ERA) has rattled off three consecutive victories, including a 7-1 road win over the Washington Nationals last time out, as he allowed just five hits over seven shutout innings.

The right-hander is 4-2 with a 4.92 ERA in nine home outings, surrendering just a single home run in 56.2 combined frames.

In 11 career games (10 starts) versus the Giants, Chacin has tallied a 3-5 record and 4.50 ERA, which includes a 5-3 home loss on May 16.

I’m going to recommend that readers play the total as one of their MLB picks Friday, as the OVER is 19-7-1 in the last 27 meetings in this series.

MLB Pick: Over 10.5
