The National League leading Arizona Diamondbacks (35-26) host the San Francisco Giants (31-29) in what should be a competitive matchup.

The D’Backs are coming off of a 3-1 victory over the Giants in which superstar Paul Goldschmidt saved the day with a bomb. S.F. looks to exact some revenge tonight! Let's evaluate the MLB odds for this one.

First-pitch is set for 10:10 pm ET tonight at Chase Field in Phoenix, Arizona.

Bet 365 Sportsbook lists the D’Backs as a -107 favorite and the total for the game is listed at 8 runs.

The Diamondbacks are coming off of a thriller in a 3-1 victory over the 3rd place Giants. The Giants aren’t used to 3rd place with their supreme pitching staff, but with superstar Paul Goldschmidt tearing the league up, the Giants might have to get used to it.

Paul Goldschmidt has to be a frontrunner for the National League MVP Award. He has his team in 1st place in the division and is coming up with game changing hits.

On the season, Goldschmidt leads the D’Backs in home runs (15), runs batted in (57), and batting average (.332).He’s been a flatout beast all season.

In his last 10 games alone, Goldschmidt is 16 for 42 with 3 home runs, 18 runs batted in ,and 11 runs scored. With a weak offense that the Giants have, Goldschmidt can outproduce the entire Giants team in a single game.

Cahill vs. Bumgarner

A Trevor Cahill (3-6, 3.27) vs. Madison Bumgarner (4-4, 3.46) starting pitching matchup is a relative wash. Neither pitcher has had any major run support and both have been inconsistent in the first couple of months in the 2013 season.

Cahill is coming off of a disappointing outing in which he allowed 5 runs on 9 hits in 5 innings in a loss to the Cardinals. He’s a down the line .500 pitcher.

Bumgarner on the other hand hasn’t fared any better as of late as he’s coming off of 2 consecutive losses to the Cardinals and Athletics in which he allowed 9 runs and 10 hits in 12 2/3 innings pitched. This could be another game where Goldschmidt tee’s off on the Giants.

Looking At the Bright Side

San Francisco has never been known for their hitting, but they have 5 hitters hitting .280 or better. This is a vast improvement from years past.

Now, the Giants need their pitching to improve. Marco Scutaro lacks power, but leads the Giants with a .326 batting average while Buster Posey and Pablo Sandoval have the ability to drive in runs and get on base, but have average power at best.

This is a respectable season for Posey, but he’s looking for a better 2nd half of the season. Posey is currently hitting .296 with 7 home runs and 31 runs batted in.

Giants hitters have had little success against Trevor Cahill. Brandon Crawford is 0 for 11 against the right-hander, but the Giants look to turn it around here and match the slugging of Goldschmidt.

Both of these pitchers have been outstanding at times. Look for a low scoring tight matchup for your MLB picks, as these are two evenly matched teams.
