Sports handicapper Ian Cameron provides his MLB Early Lines Report for the baseball card taking place on Tuesday, August 16.

Pittsburgh Pirates vs San Francisco Giants
It’s hard not to make a betting case for Jameson Taillon right now as he has been on a terrific run for the Pittsburgh Pirates in his last six starts surrendering just 8 earned runs in his last 38 innings of work during that span to go along with a dominating ratio of 3 walks to 32 strikeouts. Pittsburgh has a strong 6-1 mark in his last 7 trips to the mound. The San Francisco lineup has not faced him yet which should give the surging young Pirates pitcher an edge on the mound in this game. On the flip side, Jeff Samardzija has not had the same level of success for his team over the last several starts.

He has been hit around repeatedly to the tune of 37 runs in his last 51.2 innings of work in his last 9 starts. The Pirates absolutely hammered Samardzija when they faced him earlier this season back in June for 6 runs on 6 hits including 3 home runs in just 3 innings. Control and command issues have played him as well with Samardzija yielding 15 walks in his last 6 starts combined. The San Francisco bullpen has struggled for weeks and is coming off a brutal ending on Sunday against Baltimore in which Giants relievers couldn’t hold a 7-1 lead as the Orioles stormed all the way back to win 8-7. The pitching combo of Samardzija and the suspect Giants bullpen doesn’t deserve the favorites tag here over Taillon and the surging Pirates who have won three straight series including a series on the road against the LA Dodgers over the weekend. Wrong team favored in this bettor’s mind! My MLB pick is Pirates with MLB odds of +105.
