There’s a ton of good matchups to start off the Mother’s Day Weekend. A couple of these matchups really stand out, making this a possible profitable version of Friday’s MLB Picks of the Day.

When the most dominating offense in recent times in the Rockies throw up a goose egg, things just aren’t going your way. Thankfully, the other half of the 2 underdogs that were picked, the Miami Marlins, delivered at +141 odds to salvage the day.

Today, we go right back to Petco Park as the great Jose Fernandez is pitching and will be facing the worst offense in the majors in the San Diego Padres. Will another ace bite the dust at respectable betting odds?

Miami Marlins (20-15) at San Diego Padres (15-21)
Stanton To the Rescue
When you have Jose Fernandez at decent odds and against a team that can’t hit their weight in the San Diego Padres, you take him.

The Marlins aren’t a good road team (3-10) and were pushed to the limit, but the Padres offense is so bad, that Miami was able to pull out a 3-1 victory in 11 innings on Thursday against the Pads as superstar, Giancarlo Stanton, hit his 11th home run and knocked in his 39th and 40th runs batted in of the season in extra innings to give Miami the “W”. The Marlins have the best offensive player in tonight’s game to go along with one of the best pitchers in the majors.

Jose Fernandez In the House!
I’ve built Fernandez up a lot in this piece, but he deserves it as he’s 4-1 with a 1.74 ERA on the season. In his last 4 starts, Fernandez has allowed just 2 earned runs in 30 innings to go along with 42 strikeouts. When you combine that against a team in the Padres who are 30th in the league in every major statistical category and sport a .264 on base percentage, this game should be a slam dunk for the Marlins along with being a low scoring game.

2 Picks – Miami -127

Miami/San Diego under 6 at Bovada- ( most lines are 5.5, but Bovada is the exception at 6 runs).

New York Yankees (18-15) at Milwaukee Brewers (22-13)
All He Does Is Win?
Unofficially, Masahiro Tanaka (4-0,2.53), has won over 30 consecutive decisions and that has to be a record. He’ll be put to the test as he faces a potent Milwaukee offense and one of the most improved baseball teams in the majors in the Brew Crew. Can Tanaka win another game tonight as a slight betting favorite?

The Yankees have been giving Tanaka plenty of run support to keep the streak alive and he’s needed it. He looked less than intimidating in the early part of his last game, a 9-3 victory over the Tampa Bay Rays. Tanaka can be very hittable and with such pinpoint control, can allow some gopher balls. He still has great stuff and for some reason, the man always wins or gets off of the hook. I said that I’m going to take Tanaka until he loses and I’m sticking with it.

The Brewers send Yovani Gallardo (2-1, 2.47) to the mound and by no means is Gallardo a slouch. He has an 83-54 career record with a 3.68 ERA for his career. With Milwaukee playing so well this season, they could possibly be the team to knock off the great Tanaka.

Milwaukee has lost its last 2 games, but still have a comfortable 4 game lead over the St. Louis Cardinals in the National League Central Division while New York has won 2 straight games and are attempting to grab the top spot in a tight American League East Division.

This game should be very competitive, but Tanaka has been exceptional and will be the difference in tonight’s game.

Pick- Yankees -123 at 5 Dimes

Good luck, everyone!
