Odds Update

Below you'll find an update on the baseball odds and how that correlates with our sports picks for the day.

Yankees (Pettitte) vs. Red Sox (Doubront)

Covered by Ron Patrick

The Red Sox opened at around -145 to win tonight's game, but the MLB betting lines have been moving quite a lot throughout the day. Now you can have to take on -165 chalk if you really like Boston to get the victory.

Felix Doubront has been pitching at a higher level than Pettitte recently, and that's one factor into why Ron Patrick is picking Boston. However, he's taking on more risk by going with the Red Sox on the run-line.

Athletics (Griffin) vs. Angels (Weaver)

Covered by Joe Freda

Though they're still atop the AL West, the Athletics don't have much breathing room ahead of the Rangers, so they need to put on a good showing in this series against the Mike Trout, Albert Pujols, and the Angels.

It's going to be tough work against Jered Weaver tonight, as he's been fantastic against Oakland over the past few seasons. That's not going to stop Joe from taking the underdog price (approximately +115) that comes with the Athletics.

Dodgers (Nolasco) vs. Nationals (Strasburg)

Covered by Willie Bee

There's some heavy chalk on Stephen Strasburg and the Nationals tonight, as they begin a home set against the Dodgers in Washington. Current MLB odds have the home team listed at -160 to open things up with a win.

Willie has opted for a total play in this spot though, as he feels the All-Star break may translate into hitters needing more time to get re-acquainted to real game action. He's adding the UNDER 7.5 runs to his baseball picks.

Phillies (Kendrick) vs. Mets (Hefner)

Covered by Joe Freda

The way Jeremy Hefner's been pitching, it's going to take a great hitting day from the Phillies to get anything going. That could prove true for the Mets as well, considering Kyle Kendrick has been very solid on the road this season.

For his final selection on this matchup, Joe has decided that the best value is on the visiting Phillies. Philadelphia has won six of nine meetings with New York so far, which puts them in a good position mentally heading into this series.

Orioles (Chen) vs. Rangers (Holland)

Covered by Joe Catalano

Derek Holland has seemingly figured things out after a rough stretch, but Wei-Yin Chen has been excellent since returning from injury. Maybe that's why the Orioles, despite being on the road, are not huge underdogs for tonight's game.

Sportsbooks have Baltimore at +125 to win, with Texas posted up as a -140 favorite. The total is at nine runs and Joe is going to roll with the UNDER in hopes that the two pitchers will avoid meltdowns on the mound.

Mariners (Saunders) vs. Astros (Norris)

Covered by Steve Merril

Though Joe Saunders has shown flashes of brilliance this season, his overall numbers still leave a lot to be desired. Meanwhile, Bud Norris has been terrific at home and he'll want to put on a good show for potential suitors tonight.

Which way is Steve going with his sports picks? He's passing on the game's total and is going to put his faith in the home underdog in the Astros. Houston is listed at +110 to win, a price Steve believes is too good to pass up against an inconsistent Saunders.

Morning Odds

Yankees (Pettitte) vs. Red Sox (Doubront)

Covered by Willie Bee & Jeff Grant

How about a little American League East rivalry action to start things off in the second half? The Yankees and Red Sox renew their long-standing hatred for another at Fenway tonight, with Felix Doubront pitching for Boston and Andy Pettitte getting the call for New York.

The MLB odds have the Red Sox favored at -160, while you can add the Yankees to your MLB picks at a price of +150.

Athletics (Griffin) vs. Angels (Weaver)

Covered by Ron Patrick & Jeff Grant

The Athletics begin the second half in the driver's seat of the AL West. They're 56-39 overall, putting them two games up on Texas in the division. Oakland has also gone a very solid 31-15 at home, while the Angels will come in with a 20-24 road record.

Nonetheless, L.A. will have Jered Weaver on the mound, which is why we find the home team at -130.

Dodgers (Nolasco) vs. Nationals (Strasburg)

Covered by Willie Bee

Yes, the Dodgers have turned the corner big-time, but they run into Stephen Strasburg tonight in the nation's capital. Strasburg was shelled in his latest start before the All-Star break, but has gone 4-3 with a 1.65 ERA in nine home starts this season.

What have MLB odds makers decided on? Washington is listed at an offering of -160, with Los Angeles at +150.

Phillies (Kendrick) vs. Mets (Hefner)

Covered by Joe Freda

Jeremy Hefner has been pitching extremely well over the past two months or so, but Kyle Kendrick hasn't been too bad either, which is why the baseball odds are so close for tonight's game in the Big Apple.

The Mets can be located at -110, while the total for this series opener seems to be holding steady at eight runs.
