Thursday was a cakewalk for us, as both of my free picks cashed in. First, you had the Los Angeles Angels as an underdog who I said were just the better team than the Royals and the 2nd game was Toronto in Boston where the OVER was never in doubt, as home runs were flying out of the park.

Atlanta Braves (28-18) at New York Mets (17-27)
Pitcher Kris Medlen has the right to be upset, as he has pitched fairly well this season but the Braves have given him very little to work with. Medlen is at a major advantage as he comes to CitiField, as the ballpark is a pitchers delight and he’s facing an inferior pitcher in Jeremy Hefner (0-5, 5.00).
If you look at the records, it’s two crummy pitchers that should get knocked around, but that’s not the case. In his last start , Medlen gave up just 1 run on 2 hits in 7 innings. He’s given the Braves a quality outing in 8 out of 9 starts and has just 1 win to show for it. Medlen is also a career 3-0 against New York with a dazzling 1.58 ERA in 15 starts.
Trouble Hitting Anywhere
CitiField is a nice crutch for the Mets to use, but they’ve been a weak team on the road as well as at home.
They rank 23rd in the league in runs, 28th in batting average and 27th in on-base percentage and slugging percentage. David Wright has done a solid job of leading the way, but with players like Ike Davis in the lineup, it’s an automatic out. Davis is battling Adam Dunn for the worst batting average in the majors and is looking to set a record.
The Braves should give Kris Medlen something to work with in this game.

Los Angeles Angels (20-27) at Kansas City Royals (21-23)
The Angels are moving up the standings at a rapid pace and I found a new team to ride as Los Angeles is on a 5 game winning streak. When the Royals can’t prevent an 0-7 pitcher like Joe Blanton from getting his first win on the road, that’s a problem for K.C. backers. Bottom line is both teams are going in different directions.
A win is a win, and last night was another homerun showcase for L.A., as Chris Lanetta joined sluggers Mark Trumbo, Mike Trout, and Albert Pujols on the home run list. The Angels superstars are starting to hit home runs every game during this winning streak, and that spells trouble for the Royals and starter Luis Mendoza (1-2, 5.50 ERA).
That said, although Mendoza’s earned run average looks pretty bad, he’s pitched consistently well in his last few outings. When the Angels are on top of their game, they’re unstoppable and it won’t matter here.
Billy Butler and Alex Gordon, who are the key hitters in the Royals lineup, had their chances last night and couldn’t come up with one hit. Kansas is spiraling backwards and expect this to continue. Look for L.A. to pick up their 6th consecutive win as they get back into the divisional race.
