The Colorado Rockies and Pittsburgh Pirates are both coming off disappointing results last time out, as they prepare to open up a three-game series Friday. Find out why we are looking at the run line with our MLB picks tonight.

Let’s take a closer look at the MLB betting odds for this National League matchup at PNC Park, with the first pitch scheduled for 7:05 p.m. ET.

Rocked in Atlanta

Colorado has dropped the first four games of its current road trip, as the pitching staff allowed 40 combined runs to the Atlanta Braves over that span.

The Rockies are 11-15 as road underdogs of +125 to +150 this season, with the OVER going 16-9-1 in that situation.

Put away the broom

Pittsburgh was unable to complete a rare five-game sweep over the St. Louis Cardinals, as it suffered a 13-0 blowout loss as -111 home favorites Thursday, while going OVER the betting total for a second consecutive contest.

The Pirates still hold a 1.5-game lead in the National League Central standings, as they look to improve upon their 26-12 record in their last 38 games following a loss.

Rockies starting pitcher Jhoulys Chacin (9-5, 3.54 ERA) went 2-2 with a 3.41 ERA in five starts last month, as he comes off a no-decision effort in a 6-5 home win over the Milwaukee Brewers.

The right-hander is 3-2 with a 1.90 ERA in seven road outings, surrendering just a single home run in 42.2 combined frames.

In four career games versus the Pirates, Chacin has compiled a dismal 1-3 record and 6.97 ERA.

Pirates starting pitcher Gerrit Cole (5-4, 3.56 ERA) has alternated wins and losses over his last three efforts, as he attempts to bounce back from a 3-2 road defeat to the Miami Marlins.

The right-hander is 3-3 with a 4.08 ERA in six home outings, with opposing hitters batting .301 against him.

Cole will be making his first career appearance against the Rockies.

I’m going to recommend that readers back the Pirates on the run line with their MLB picks, as they’ve gone 18-5 in their last 23 games as home favorites of -151 to -200.

MLB Pick:  Pittsburgh Pirates -1.5 (+140)
