Sports handicapper Ian Cameron provides an MLB Division Series Report for the baseball playoffs card taking place today. He will analyze if there is value in backing the favorite or if it is to pick the underdog as it has a very attractive price on the betting board.

Giants vs. Cubs

The Chicago Cubs are the favorite in everyone’s mind to win the World Series but in the first step of their journey to a title, they must now get past a veteran San Francisco Giants team loaded with playoff experience and a squad that has caught fire in the last seven days or so, to get into the playoffs by sweeping the LA Dodgers on the final weekend of the regular season, and riding Madison Bumgarner’s postseason dominance to a win over the NY Mets in the NL Wildcard Game.

The Giants can’t be underestimated and I feel they are ready to win this game and possibly this series as well, despite the fact they are mammoth underdogs to the Cubs. San Francisco will send Johnny Cueto to the mound for this game and his postseason track record is far from terrific particularly last year when he was with Kansas City but Cueto was great down the stretch of the regular season allowing just 7 runs in his last 35.1 innings of work and has a rock solid 3.07 ERA in his career at Wrigley Field.

How To Bet Dodgers vs. Nationals NLDS

On the flip side, Jon Lester will get the nod for Chicago and he’s been strong registering a 1.74 ERA at home this season and a very good 2.25 ERA in his career against the Giants. However, the Cubs lost both of Lester’s starts in the playoffs last season against the Cardinals and Mets so it is not a given that Lester will deliver a victory for the Cubs in this game.

We saw the AL Wildcard winner Toronto take down Texas by a score of 10-1 in Game 1 of their ALDS and I think Game 1 here will also be an advantage for the Wildcard winning team in this case San Francisco who like Toronto has had to play intense baseball for the last couple weeks to get into the playoffs while Chicago has not played a significant and crucial baseball game in well over a month not to mention the overwhelming pressure on the Cubs to snap the franchise’s well publicized 108 year championship drought. That is an edge that isn’t factored into this price tag. I expect Game 1 and this entire series to be much closer and tighter than the oddsmakers do, from what is shown across the board, and I’ll look to step in and take a shot with the San Francisco Giants as my MLB pick, at a very attractive underdog price on a team poised to give the Chicago Cubs all they can handle.
